What is Job's Trials?
This new work explores the powerful and timeless themes from The Book of Job. Job’s questioning of justice and his resolve to rise in resistance while holding on to his faith are essential lessons to all of us as we confront the issues that face our society and the world. This music aims to bring new audiences to this important story and to give those familiar with it a unique and modern vantage point on an ancient story containing themes that are still vitally important to our time.
Job’s Trials uses a unique new format based on a classical song cycle recast using the passionate language of jazz amplified with theatrical narration. The performance examines the most perplexing and powerful themes from the story: the paradox of faith, the ephemeral value of a virtuous life and the injustice of suffering. The narrative is propelled forward by the questions and themes that emerge from the text.
This work aims to leave listeners with a desire to fearlessly examine the difficult questions in their life and perhaps to begin to stand up to them with a deeper sense of courage and faith.
Where We Are. And Where We Are Going.
This project is funded up through the last day of recording. Amazing! ... but of course the production after recording is where most of the cost of album-making lies. We still need the funding to mix, master, design, reproduce, distribute and promote the recording.
We aim to bring this music to spaces of faith to amplify, deepen and challenge the traditional reading of this powerful story. Furthermore this recording will help to bring this universal theme to secular spaces as a potent model for resistance and endurance.
