• Equipment replacements to continue live and highlight video coverage;
• Capital costs and server upgrades to implement monthly patron system using the INN solution for secure payments;
• Purchasing a TASCAM DR-40 recorder to record scrums outside Council Chambers during livestreams and interviews for The Public Record Radio Show on CFMU;
• Overhead expenses including office, server hosting, equipment maintenance, cellular expenses, and all the associated expenses in creating high-quality original journalism;
• Costs of relaunching a MailChimp newsletter; and
• Continuing coverage of Hamilton's civic affairs.

All this in addition to record of great coverage of Hamilton's civic affairs that you rely on.

Building A New Model for Local Journalism

To be effective in providing a public goal, public interest journalism must be accessible to all. To be sustainable, it must be funded by readers.

This crowdfunding campaign will enable The Public Record to implement its 90-9-1 model of reader financial support to make local journalism sustainable.

The monthly patron model is the only one that can sustain watchdog journalism.

It enables an outlet to assign journalists with a long-term commitment to fearless journalism, to launch investigations into problems needing solutions, and to be free from undue influence.

Investing in this crowdfunding campaign will enable me to get to sustainability and grow. My next goal is simple, I want to be able to hire Hamiltonians to cover Hamilton as we grow The Public Record.
