Hello good people of IndieGoGo! I am a professional singer from New York City. I have been working in my field for over 20 years. I love my work and feel blessed to sing for a living. A few months ago, I was hired to sing in a P!NK tribute band in Long Island. I accepted the job on a short term basis. The band rehearsed for several weeks and played one show at a club called Napper Tandy's
2 days before the show, I was served with a 112 page complaint seeking almost $10,000,000 million dollars in damages to the ex drummer of the band who also happens to be a personal injury attorney. He had parted ways with the man who hired me and to this day I have never met him. There were 13 allegations listed against me including "Conspiracy for Fraud". The Plaintiff further stated that he felt I was "too unattractive" to front a P!NK tribute band and that I was a lousy vocalist. He felt it was in the best interest of the public to ban me from singing in any P!NK tribute band for the rest of my life.
Unfortunately, despite the serious allegations, the press focused on the fact that the lawsuit stated I was "too unattractive" to front this type of band. The NY Post reported I was being sued for being "too old and too ugly" for the band. That is the story that made the news. One headline referred to me as a "bad, ugly singer". Sued for being too old and too ugly for P!NK tribute band Although my age was never mentioned in the lawsuit, the press decided to make an issue out of it. I make it a point to mention I am 40 years old in interviews because I LOVE BEING 40 and I hope more performers will embrace their age instead of hiding behind a "showbiz age" like I once did for years.

I made $75 for the show I am being sued for. I have been in the system of The Supreme Court of Riverhead since April 26th and have accrued over $3200 in legal bills. We are waiting to hear if a preliminary injunction will or will not be granted. I may potentially be in the court system for years. Although I have kept my chin up, this situation is rather heartbreaking. I have not been on an audition in over 3 months, as fighting this case has been a full time job.
I am asking you, the amazing people of Indiegogo to help me raise my current legal bill. There are lots of fun incentives like a Justice for Collette Tshirt, private video singing telegrams, and even a private acoustic concert! And don't worry, I can actually sing!
I want to stand up for whats right and fair. For any working class musician who has felt pushed around, for anyone who has wrongly been abused by the legal system and for anyone that has been made to feel "Less Then Perfect".
If you can't donate, please share my story through the Indiegogo share tool or read my case on www.makingascene.org. I'm educating myself on the legal system. I'm hoping my case can inspire other defendants to stand up and inspire reform. Listen to other peoples stories regarding lawsuit abuse from organizations such as The Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York. Write an elected official. Write to P!NK.
Unfortunately, something like this could happen to anyone. And I don't want anyone else to go through what I have. Thank you so much for reading.
