Lyle Dotson was attacked, handcuffed, arrested,
falsely imprisoned, and charged with battery of a police officer by the
Louisiana State Police Department during a college architectural and historical tour of the French Quarter in New Orleans. We are seeking your
support to help pay for attorneys, private investigators, travel, and other costs associated with his legal defense and civil action. Any remaining funds from this campaign will be placed into a college account on Lyle's behalf. We appreciate all the love and support during these dark days where officers often feel compelled to use their authority to abuse their power, justify their actions, and destroy yet another life of a young Black male.
There are many challenges facing the city of New Orleans with respect to structural and cultural issues, disparity, violent crime, and law enforcement. Recently Lyle, and the Ball State University architecture students and faculty in his company, became fully aware of the historical, unprecedented, and ongoing patterns of misconduct that according to the U.S. Department of Justice, violate the constitution and federal law, including a pattern or practice of excessive force, and of illegal stops, searches, and arrests, as well as discriminatory policing based on racial, ethnic, and LGBT bias, as well as a failure to provide critical police services to language minority communities.
