What is "Karate for the Blind and Visually Impaired"
Liverpool Karate-Jutsu already had an established non-profit karate club.
Stephen joined the karate club in June 2012.
Stephen has Usher Syndrome and is deaf and blind.
Stephen immediately became one of the keenest and most enthusiastic students at the karate club and Sensei Mike started to develop specific, specialist training for him.
Within a short period Stephen's confidence and self-esteem had improved and Stephen wanted to share his success with his Blind and Visually Impaired peers...
In September 2012, Karate for the Blind and Visually Impaired was launched.
Sensei Mike and Stephen
We urgently need Karate Mats
We take great lengths to ensure that all our students train in a safe environment.
- being Blind and Visually Impaired and training in karate is a masive challenge, with or without Karate Mats.
We need to prepare our Blind and Visually Impaired students for real self-defence situations, that mean that they need to practice falling and throwing a potential attacker etc..
- with Karate Mats all the required training can be carried out
- without Karate Mats it can't
- during training sessions our Blind and Visually Impaired often fall or trip up and Karate Mats help prevent an avoidable injury
All the money received will help Karate for the Blind and Visually Impaired purchase Karate Mats and if we beat our Target, we will buy other equipment too.
What having Karate Mats will do!
With Karate Mats our Blind and Visually Impaired students will be able to train in a safer environment.
We can provide our Blind and Visually Impaired students with additional training that requires the protection of a Karate Mat when they fall etc.
it will also help our Blind and Visually Impaired students to become better martial artists and hopefully Stephen will eventually become a black belt too.
With Karate Mats, the additional training may help our Blind and Visually Impaired students if they are mugged or attacked.
