To Our Friends,
As far back as I can remember, I have been recording in studios where the intention is to block the outside noise around us. With this project I intend to do the opposite.
When I first moved to Toronto I lived in the top floor of a storefront apartment, surrounded by construction, streetcars, and the day to day milling of the patrons of Toronto in their daily grind. I quickly realized that there is never a still moment in the city. A constant motion, a buzz that never ceases. This led me to the idea that I could record the breath of the city rather then plug my ears to it.
Since I've lived in the city, the songs I write have been influenced by these very breaths that the city takes. I chose to harness these sounds as secondary instruments on the record rather then shut them out. These experiences have lead me to the idea that I could record not only in my home, but also in the city itself.
We've decided on site-specific locations to represent the songs chosen and also the value of the city's influence on musicians and all artists. We believe this contributes to the richness of Toronto's diverse culture. This leads me to the visual component of the project.
With this project comes a visual aspect, a documentary on the making of the record as well as the community it takes place in. Toronto.
The documentary will focus primarily on the songs and the process, but will also touch upon the very people and places that make all of these musical experiences possible.
All musical performances will be recorded live and documented so the person who experiences this record can both visual and sonically enjoy.
So in short, we will be recording at outdoor locations all over the city. We will be filming all of this and shooting a documentary on the creation of the album.
The unique aspect of this project is to both raise funds for a project which is normally out of reach to an independent musician, and to involve support from people who believe in this project as much as we do while we progress through this recording process.
This project will require recording equipment, engineering, filming, video editing, and countless hours of man power. These are important factors due to the already expensive nature of recording and video costs, in addition to the outdoor nature of this project. To cover these costs we are asking the indie gogo community to help launch our project.
With your help, we can put out a unique record that captures the uniqueness of the city and sounds that rise from it.

  Sincerely,
Kristian Montano, Aaron Hall, David Kaminsky, Yannick Lalonde-Woods, Kevin Butler
