Help Us Build a One-Of-A-Kind Radio Station
With the rare opportunity to operate a licensed radio station, thanks to the Community Radio Act of 2010, we are building a unique radio station for a major metropolitan area in Fort Worth. Texas.
More than just a community station, KFTW becomes the VOICE of the community by offering a means to produce programming and by allowing direct access to the airwaves. With quarterly programming workshops, special interest shows can be developed for internet, broadcast and national platforms. The concept of using radio as a UTILITY by providing services targeted not to a mass audience, but a LOCAL audience. Everything local plays on KFTW. Music, talk, local issues and entertainment.
The City of Fort Worth is located in the 5th largest media market in America. So- called "local media" concerns itself with 13 diverse counties in North Texas. KFTW will have a coverage area or ADI (Area of Domanate Influence) of Fort Worth including nearly 500,000 people. This hyper-localness, is uncommon in many cities due of the extremely large size of most marketplaces where media must serve a huge audience of millions of listeners.
What sets KFTW The Pirate apart from other stations is the public access and local orientation which could easily become a template for the over 1000 new community stations across America coming on the air this year.
Proof of Concept:
Over 40,000 listener hours online since our launch shows a desire for 'radio deconstructed' and we hope this free-flow of content from the community will act as a template for at least some of the over 1000 new LPFM stations hitting the airwaves within the next two years. We will always have the GIANT stations playing the same tunes and we will ALWAYS have so-called public stations who do the best they can. Your support of this project will mean you support the concept of radio deconstructed and true public access.
