Kisarazu Murder Case is a cinematic take on this ongoing issue of forced labor and human trafficking in Japan. This narrative short film reveals the harsh conditions these migrant workers are forced to face through the eyes of our protagonist, Li-Hong, a 26-year-old Chinese girl who works at a farm. It's a personal story of her experience, which is fictional but largely inspired by a true event that occurred in 2006.

Director Toshimichi Saito has been following this issue carefully for years and believes that the structure of TITP needs to be revised in a way that their working conditions will be improved. The purpose of this film is to build public awareness for this issue, both inside and outside of Japan, so that there will be a change before it's too late.
Why too late? Because the Japanese government is planning to expand the TITP so that they can bring in more cheap migrant workers in preparation for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which will most likely result in more victims of forced labor and human trafficking.
Kisarazu Murder Case is a story that must be told now. It's a film that must be seen by the world now.

Meet the Creators
Toshimichi Saito (writer/director)
Toshimichi Saito is an independent filmmaker based in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from New York Unviersity's Graduate Film Program and worked for Spike Lee as an assistant editor while in NYC. His latest short film, A Warm Spell (2014), won the Grand Prix at New Directors Film Festival, Best Actor Award at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan, screened at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and will be screening at Raindance Film Festival in the UK in September.
Maj Andersson (producer, The Current)
Maj is a producer for the Danish project, The Current. The Current's mission is to add to the conventional forms of media communication an extra dimension through creative and artistic means in the world of film. The Current begins where reporting ends. During the fall of 2015, The Current will release ten short films by ten different directors from every corner of the world online, who each in their own way will treat a current subject with the tools of cinema. And one of them is Kisarazu Murder Case by the up-and-coming Japanese director, Toshimichi Saito.
What We Need
Here's what our budget looks like.
What You Get
Since this is an extremely low budget film, it wouldn't make much sense to give out goods that will require shipping (especially to outside of Japan); we'd be spending half the money we raise just to complete those perks. That's not to say, however, that we won't be able to express our gratitude to your contribution. We have prepared various ways to say thank you with a lot of heart and sincerity. Every dollar counts and your support will indirectly (through this film) help improve the lives of migrant workers in Japan. We believe that the best thing we can do in return is to say "thank you for your investment in a better world" from the bottom of our heart, instead of giving you a T-shirt.
What if we don't reach our goal?
We have chosen "Flexible Funding", which means we will keep whatever we raise even if we don't meet our entire goal, because we are so convinced that this film needs to be made now and we will make it no matter what, even if it means breaking our bank account. However, we'd rather not break our bank account and more importantly, human trafficking is not just my problem; it's OUR problem. So it would be more meaningful if you could contribute to making this film happen, rather than just us using up what little money we have. And that's exactly why we are running this campaign.
Challenges
We are currently looking to secure a pig farm location but the negotiations have been very difficult so far. It's understandable. What farm owner wants to help us shoot a film, in which a farm owner abuses his employee? They also have strict rules on entry to the farms with regard to prevention of diseases among the pigs. These difficulties, however, are common in any filmmaking and to be overcome. I'm confident that we can find a perfect location for our film since, for instance, I managed to borrow a Boeing 777 for my last film.

この短編映画の主人公は、千葉の養豚場で働く26歳の中国人女性・リーホンです。彼女の視点から、外国人労働者が強いられている労働環境の厳しい現実を描きます。このストーリーはあくまでもリーホンという架空の人物の体験を描くフィクションですが、その内容は、2006年に実際に起きた事件を参考にしています。

齋藤俊道監督は、数年前からこの問題に関心を持っており、実習生たちの労働環境が改善するよう、技能実習制度を見直す必要があると考えています。この映画を通して、国内外のより多くの人々がこの問題を認識し、一刻も早く状況が改善することを願っています。
「一刻も早い改善」が必要なのはなぜか。それは、2020年東京オリンピックの開催準備のためにより多くの安上がりな労働力を外国から導入する必要があり、そのために日本政府は技能実習制度の拡大を計画しているからです。このままでは、さらなる強制労働と人身売買の被害を生んでしまいます。
『Kisarazu Murder Case』は、「今」語られるべき物語であり、「今」世界に発信すべき映画なのです。

クリエイター紹介
齋藤俊道（監督・脚本）
1985年、大阪生まれ。ニューヨーク大学大学院映画学科で映画を学び、スパイク・リーの編集助手を務めた。最新作『小春日和』（2014）は、国内では新人監督映画祭グランプリ、映文連アワード準グランプリ、Short Shorts Film Festival & Asiaベストアクターアワードを受賞、海外ではクレルモンフェラン国際短編映画祭、レインダンス映画祭で公式上映されるなど、国際的に高い評価を受けている。
マジ・アンダーソン（「The Current」プロデューサー）
デンマークのプロジェクト「The Current」のプロデューサーを務める。「The Current」のミッションは、マスコミが伝えない部分を創造的で芸術的な映画表現を通して伝えるということである。つまり、報道の終わりが「The
Current」の始まり、と言える。2015年秋、「The Current」は世界各国の10人の監督が制作した10本の短編映画をインターネット上で公開予定。10人の監督は、映画というツールを使って現代社会が抱える様々なテーマに取り組むことになっている。そしてその中の一作品が、新進気鋭の日本人監督・齋藤俊道による『Kisarazu
Murder Case』である。

寄付して下さった方への特典について
この作品は超低予算の映画です。したがって、送料のかかる品物を特典としてお渡ししようとすると、皆さんから寄付して頂いた作品制作資金の多くの部分を皆さんへの特典に費やしてしまうことになってしまい、本末転倒です。しかしだからと言って、私たちの皆さんへの感謝の気持ちを伝えることができない訳ではありません。私たちの心からの感謝の気持ちを伝えるための様々な方法を、寄付の大きさに応じて用意しています。皆さんからの寄付は、一円たりとも無駄にはしません。それは必ず、この映画を通して、日本での外国人労働者たちの生活を改善するための大きな力となります。皆さんのご協力への「お返し」として私たちがすべきことは、よくあるようにTシャツをプレゼントするようなことではなく、「この世界をより良い場所にするための投資をして下さってありがとうございます」ということを心の底から伝えることだと思っています。
もし目標金額を達成できなかったら？
仮に目標金額に達さなかった場合でも、寄付して頂いたお金はこの作品の製作費に充てさせていただきます。私たちは、この作品は「今」作るからこそ意義があると信じています。だから、自分たちの貯金を使い切ってでも「今」作るつもりです。ただ、人身売買の問題は私たち制作チームだけの問題ではなく、人類が一丸となって解決すべき問題です。だとすれば、私たち映画制作者がなけなしの貯金を投げ打ってこの映画を作るよりも、これを読んで下さっている皆さんのご協力をもって実現した方が意義深いのではないでしょうか。まさにそれこそが、私たちがこうしてクラウドファンディングをしている理由なのです。
今抱えている課題
現在、養豚場のロケーションを確保しようと動いていますが、今のところ交渉は難航しています。理由は明白です。養豚場経営者が従業員を苦しめるような映画の撮影に協力しようとする養豚場経営者がいるはずがありません。また、豚の病気感染を予防する意味でも人の出入りは厳しく制限されているようです。しかし、こういった事態は予想できていたことです。これくらいの困難は映画制作にはつきもので、これまでも幾度となく乗り越えてきました。例えば前作『小春日和』では、ボーイング777型旅客機を撮影のために手に入れることに成功しました。今回も、最後には作品に適したロケーションを確保することができると私たちは確信しています。
