We are Adele Schmidt and José Zegarra Holder, the directors and producers of the documentary series on progressive music "Romantic Warriors – A Progressive Music Saga". We hope you are doing all ok in these unusual times. We have been concentrated in the past months on editing KRAUTROCK 2, the second film in the Krautrock Trilogy and the 5th film in the series. The film covers the Zeitgeist, trajectory and current endeavors of great German Krautrock bands from the South of Germany. We are glad to tell you that we have a rough cut of the 120 minute long film. We are planning to release the film in January of 2021 and here is where you come in. We are reaching out to you asking  for your support to push this feature film over the finish line.

Background on the Romantic Warriors Series

So far, we have released four films in the series: Krautrock 1 - Romantic Warriors 4 (2019), Canterbury Tales - Romantic Warriors 3 (2015), Rock In Opposition - Romantic Warriors 2 (2012), and A Progressive Music Saga - Romantic Warriors 1 (2010). All films have been watched by thousands of music lovers and fans around the world. The documentaries have contributed to the rising interest in progressive rock music in this decade.

ABOUT THE FILM – KRAUTROCK 2

Fifty years ago, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, creativity exploded in the German music scene. This globally audible supernova was called "Krautrock".  This movement, a whole sub-genre, a family of psychedelic, ethnic, electronic, folk & rock music styles created new musical elements that had not existed before and from which the musicians were able to create new worlds of sound. Its pioneering bands created magic: They took the fierce, undomesticated essence of the old gods of rock and roll, and infused it with a truly progressive and revolutionary spirit.

KRAUTROCK 2 is the second film in The Krautrock Trilogy. KRAUTROCK 1 was released in 2019. It focuses on the Krautrock bands in the Cologne-Düsseldorf region. It was received very well and it was accepted by the German distributor Film Kino Text  for theatrical release. As of today, Krautrock 1 still plays in selected program cinemas in Germany. 

KRAUTROCK 2 focuses on the German bands in the South of Germany, KRAUTROCK 3 will focus on bands in Berlin and two bands in Hamburg. All these documentaries are feature lengths stand alone films.

Through interviews with "Krautrock" musicians, clips of live performances, photographs, and current/archival footage, the films bring you onto a journey of remarkable times of musical innovation that has shaped the decades after.

Among the musicians of the Krautrock Scene (that were active in the 70s), the following have been interviewed for KRAUTROCK 2:

SKIP VAN WYCK III • MANI NEUMEIER • RENATE KNAUP • CHRIS KARRER • DANIEL FICHELSCHER • HELLMUT HATTLER • JAN FRIDE • WALTER WESTRUPP

In addition, we'll hear the opinions of Krautrock specialists and authors Alan Freeman and Steve Freeman, and experienced musicians such as Dirk Jan Müller, Dirk Bittner & Georg Monheim of Electric Orange. We'll visit the Finkenback Festival in the beautiful German Odenwald. The festival has been running for over 40 years and was founded by fantastic Mani Neumeier of GuruGuru.

We have been working tirelessly on Krautrock 2.  We've put in countless hours researching, investigating, planning, filming, and editing to get to where we are now. We spent large amount of our own money to produce it, but without your help we can only get so far. 100% of KRAUTROCK 2 has been shot and we do have a rough cut. The Krautrock bands have not only transformed the musical landscape in Germany and beyond when they emerged in the early 70ies, they also inspired other artists, including Australian visual artist Mladen Luketin.
