Clean and Simple Planter pots can be messy! Most come with multiple drainage holes on the bottom of the pot to allow water to escape. We’ve integrated an internal water reservoir into our design. This not only captures the excess water, preventing it from spilling out, but also means you can water less frequently. This design allows for the pots to be placed directly on your desk or furniture with less risk of leakage or soil escaping.

Hi there! My name is Haobin Lin and I am originally from Mainland China. When I was a young boy I was fortunate enough to grow up in the magnificent Chinese countryside. Beautiful plants and animals surrounded me. This experience left me with a deep connection to nature. I always felt calm amidst its tranquility.

Unfortunately though, as I grew older and took on new responsibilities I was forced to leave my village. First I went to university, and then to the big city to earn an income for my family. Over time the longing for the natural world grew inside me, but it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I finally had to act.

When my daughter was born I decided that if it was impossible for us to leave the city, I must bring the beauty of nature to my daughter. So began a 3-year journey to create the best indoor garden I could design.

One day I noticed my daughter playing with her favorite toys – “building blocks.” In that moment I realized that indoor gardens could be so much more than just a bunch of pots. By allowing you to stack and expand your pots everyone can create a unique garden just like my daughters unique building creations.

The Lego-like design has the added benefit of fitting into smaller spaces like our apartment. However, it also provides flexibility, so that my daughter can move and expand her garden as she grows. Once I began to design the pot I realized that this garden could be so much more.

 I noticed that indoor gardens could be quite messy! This is because of the multiple ventilation holes on the bottom of traditional pots, allowing excess water and soil to get everywhere. So as I designed our planter pots I added an internal water reservoir that can capture the excess water and an elevated ventilation hole to reduce soil escape.

With the mess taken care of, I quickly realized that we needed to improve the lighting in our apartment if we wanted anything to grow to its fullest. My wife and daughter were particularly keen on succulents and would often leave them on the windowsill to get light, yet that still was not enough. So I set about to design a lighting fixture that could provide for multiple plants at once and have an automatic shut off so they don’t get too much light.

At this point things were going well and our plants were getting better, but some still continued to struggle. After some research I realized that many plants require moisture in the air to thrive.

Instead of buying an off-the-shelf humidifier I decided to create something beautiful, compact, and would match our building block concept. This provided an especially difficult challenge for me and it took 23 designs before I finally created a 360° diffusing mist humidifier.

Not only do our plants get the moisture they need, but it also provides additional health benefits. My eyes are less stressed and I sneeze far less often when I work next to the humidifier. At this point our garden system was shaping up to be a beautiful, easy-to-use masterpiece, but there was still one more thing I wanted to do.

Since I spend countless hours at the office I wanted to add some greenery to my desk. Our system works perfectly for workspaces, but one day I thought ‘wouldn’t it be cool if I could charge my phone with the plant on my desk?’ I immediately started working on our Power Pot. 

This mini power hub has 4 USB ports, so that it can power the LED lamp and humidifier, plus my phone and tablet.

It wasn’t until we completed the Power Pot prototype that I realized how incredibly convenient it truly was. Any desk, end table, or counter can now have a beautiful plant and a quick-charge station!

This whole project over the past 3 years has been an amazing experience. Not only was the LeGrow Smart Garden born, but also, I was able to spend quality time with my daughter planting, growing, and expanding our home garden. Now we hope to share this experience with you.

The money we raise here on Kickstarter will provide us with the capital necessary to start full production of the LeGrow Smart Garden. We hope someday it can help millions of people reconnect with nature and grow something beautiful. Thank you!
