I'm Gretchen Baer, artist, activist, and creator of the Hillary Clinton "Hillcar" art car. I live in Bisbee Arizona, an arts community 6 miles from the U.S./Mexico Border wall, on which my group,The Border Bedazzlers are painting the world's longest kids mural. I am a Hillary Clinton Super Volunteer and I support my candidate with my Hillary-themed art car. The Hillcar is a 1989 Toyota Corolla, painted with images of Hillary Clinton, decorated with jewels, toys, game pieces, and lots of glitter. The Hillcar has campaigned for Hillary in 15 states since 2008.
We recently campaigned with the Hillcar on the East Coast in 6 states during their Democratic primaries. We got out the vote in a burst of color, smiles and fun in New York, Conneticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. We also talked about the need for more art in schools, more free art programs for kids, as well as advocating for good border relations through art.
Now we would like to drive the colorful Hillcar to California to campaign in the biggest primary of them all. 475 delegates are at stake. A win in California is essential in preventing a contested Democratic Convention. The delegate math says Hillary will win the nomination, but she needs to win big so that Bernie supporters and Hillary supporters can join forces and begin to hard work that's ahead.
I would also like to continue to advocate on a national level for the importance of art in schools and the power of free art programs for kids. Hillary has dedicated her life to championing quality education, which includes the arts. Your donations will also ensure the continuation of my free, grassroots art programs such as Border Bedazzlers, Art Envoys, and Paint Your Town!
The power of Hillcar is that it can get Hillary's message to a lot to people at a very low price. We drive the Hillcar through as many neighborhoods as we possibly can, stopping and talking to people all along the way. We offer photo opportunities and inspire people to feel included and excited. The Hillcar is also a press magnet on the campaign trail. Stories about the Hillcar have appeared in TIME, Huffington Post, Sky News, NPR, National Geographic, TIME LIVE, Politico, Hillary's Fickr and Snapchat, Washington Post, New York Times, plus lots of local news.
We think Hillary's California campaign needs the sparkly magic of the Hillcar. But money is tight and we need your help. The Hillcar needs about $2,000 in repairs and 10 days of travel for two will cost another $2000, making it a total of $4000.
Help us make this trip possible. Make a donation and watch your dollars directly at work in a really fun way on the campaign trail on Facebook Twitter gretchenbaer.com and more!
The Hillcar is a grassroots project and not affiliated with Hillary's campaign in any way. 100% of your donations goes to car repair, gas, lodging, food and glitter. This is just you and me making cool things happen!
I've got some great gifts for donations $100 and up, but any small contributions, from a cup of coffee to a tank of gas, are more important than you might think. It lets us know you appreciate our service, and that we are all in this together. When people see the Hillcar come down their street they associate Hillary with bright colors, smiles, good vibes and a positive message. Together we can make history happen.
Sparkle on!
