Short Summary

  • I'm a 19 year old black female filmmaker who created the short film "The Damaged" about human trafficking. The film received a Laurel for first time filmmaking. I am an actress and filmmaker looking to tell longer, more important stories and distribute my film to larger festivals and companies.
  • My new film "Letters to Chase Hannon" tells an incredible coming of age story about a young writer who finds herself helping a wrongly convicted man. I feel now more than ever it is an important time to tell stories like this. I want to bring awareness to organizations like Innocence Project, through my gift of film and acting. As a black woman in film, I am in one of the most underrepresented groups of filmmakers. I have so many stories to tell and yet, such little ways to tell them. I have been trying to work hard  during COVID, in order to make as much money as I can for the equipment I need, but unfortunately, filmmaking equipment & set locations are very expensive.
  • By contributing to my filmmaking budget, you will help me tell so many amazing stories that I have created through my gift and love of writing. You will help my voice be heard, and my talents be shared.
  • If I made a successful short film on human trafficking as my first one, with no budget and no proper equipment, imagine what I can do with the right materials and editing software. I want to make cinematic history. When you invest in me, it isn't just for this one film, it is for life and all the amazing scripts and films that have yet to come.

What I Need & What You Get

Break it down for folks in more detail:

  • My goal is to raise $4000 for me to purchase lighting equipment, microphones, camera accessories, set locations like a prison and court house and props..
  • If I do not reach my entire goal, I would still like to use it to add to the money I have worked hard to make. I will use the combined amount in order to purchase as many accessories and locations as possible, though it will be hard.

The Impact

It is rare to see black women making a way for themselves in film and TV. I want to be part of that change. I have so much to say in such a unique way.  I am paving my own path, writing roles and finding jobs for me and people who look like me. I believe a true diverse cast and crew consist of all ethnicities. I think it is time I get a chance to be seen and you would be helping me and so many underrepresented actors and crew members get a shot.
