Update: 10 day countdown - new Perk!
Hello Internet!
I am David Nagel, film maker and tea drinker.
Technical geek by day, filmmaker by night. I already have a number
of short productions under my belt, all of which received with great fondness, and I’d love to add a new one.
I spearhead a small non-profit film and
audio production company called DAM Productions whom
since 2001 have made numerous productions across film, radio and the web. Our
previous credits include “Chimera” a 2003 two episode Doctor Who fan film,
“Pudsai” another Doctor Who fan film from 2008 made to support and campaign for
charity. We have made other productions of various kinds, but we have
never made a spoof quite like this before…
Little Who of Terror is a spoof crossover short film. It crossovers “Doctor Who” and
“Little Shop of Horrors”. It is expected to run for at least 25 minutes.
What’s the plot?
Our script is all written and ready to go, we might leave some snippets of the script here in a future update, but for now, here is the blurb:
Hapless
Seymour Smith works at Mr Lesky’s Flower Shop on the planet Skidrowalopolis. He
works with his ginger haired colleague Amy, with whom he is infatuated (but who
wouldn’t be?). One day Seymour finds a small exotic alien plant that he
soon discovers needs to feed on blood to grow big and strong. Seymour is
soon bowing at the plant’s every whim and mayhem ensues…
Who’s in it?
Unlike
Doctor Who and Little Shop of Horrors in general, we have a minimal cast,
simply consisting of David Nagel as Seymour Smith, Sammy Nagel as Amy and some
secret guest stars as the remainder of the cast – which isn’t many! These will
be revealed soon – some very exciting people to announce, we promise you!

What will it look
like?
We’ve
employed a very talented team of artists, the head of whom has been beavering
away creating the artwork from which we can start building props and sets. Jon
Wesley Huff, author of the popular Victorian Sci-fi novels “Grace and Witherbloom”, is creating our unique Who/Shop world, check out his concept
artwork below and see if you can name all the references.

Jon’s
delicious set pieces and props will be recreated by our props department, some
variation may occur but we’ll be making sure that the real thing does Jon’s
graphics justice. We can’t wait for you
to step into the unusual world of Mr Lesky’s Flower Shop.
We
also have experienced Deviantart artist Chelsea Chung to put clothes on our
cast! Chelsea has done the herculean task of designing the threads that will
adorn our cast members. Here’s a snippet of what to expect:

And here is a sneak peek at the Chibi artwork made by our resident artist Anthie whom will be making our £50 exclusive artwork for backers.

The
film will be shot in HD – our first HD production! So we have employed a crack
team of crew members to ensure that we are producing the best quality picture and sound.
You will have met a number of these guys on our previous productions; from the
camera and sound work, to some brilliant CGI based characters.
Who’s doing the
music?
While
it’d be clever to simply acquire karaoke tracks of the soundtrack, this is
something that isn’t easily done for our version of the songs. We’ve cut the
songs down so they are snappier and funnier within their new context, so
drastic edits were required and whom better than experienced stage and film composer, Tony Diana. Tony has spent many hours recreating the 1986
movie’s soundtrack to the exact quaver and we applaud his hard work. The
attention to detail is extraordinary!
Theatre trained and fanzine editor, Matt Powell is putting the final touches to our new
song lyrics. An interesting way with words that I hope every Little Shop and
Who fans will enjoy hearing. It’s been a tough ole task to string this film
together, we can tell you!
Why should I watch?
This
has never been seen before! Forever
Doctor Who fans (or at least I have) have wondered what a proper Doctor Who
musical would be like. We’ve had the BBC stars do renditions of songs, we’ve
even had a small group of like minded performers do one or two songs, but we’ve
never had a full on musical Doctor Who experience. Little Who brings this
straight to your computer screen in, we hope, a memorable way.
This’ll
be some top notch film making! We love
to make productions of the highest quality possible, we also want to make sure we make an enjoyable movie that everyone wants to see.
Why should I back?
Be
part of the project! Backing the project
automatically gives you an onscreen credit and your donation, however big or
small, will ensure that the film will flourish.
Rewards! Like other projects here, we have a pleasing number
of rewards to give our dedicated backers, all of these can be seen in the list
on the right. We hope these will entice you to participate in the film, plus we have some secret rewards that we will be revealing soon! Everyone will get an early bird link to see the film before its intended release.
Charity! Whether you’re a keen charity donator or not,
we’re sure you’d like to know that we’ve made it even easier for you to donate
to charity. We’re supporting BBC’s Children in Need by making a 20% donation of
all the money raised on your behalf. All you need is a PayPal account!
Where will the money
be spent?
Firstly,
20% of all donations will be paid straight to BBC’s Children in Need. The rest will fund the film, this
includes:
- Purchase
and hire of camera and sound equipment
- Hire
of lighting
- Buying
materials for set builds
- Paying
for costume pieces
- Acquiring materials for scratch built props
- and
finally, to fulfil the backer rewards.
If
there is any left over, we’ll be donating it to Children in Need.
What is Children in Need?
Children in Need (CiN) is a long running charity, headed by the BBC, whose vision it is to ensure that every child in the UK is safe, happy and secure and is allowed every chance to reach their full potential. By raising these charitable funds we can help provide grants to projects that support disadvantaged children.
Find out more about Children in Need by visiting the Official website.
Doctor Who has a long running association with Children in Need: "The Five Doctors" programme was shown during the CiN TV pledge evening in 1983, 1993 saw "Dimensions in Time" made especially for CiN and 30th anniversary of DW, David Tennant and Peter Davison clashed in "Time Crash" for CiN 2007.
When’s it due?
As soon as we can get our mitts on everything we need, we can shoot the film. With Children in Need 2013 coming around the corner very fast, on top of that weeks
later, the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who will be firmly in sight,
we’d love to get this film shot across October and early November and edited
and playing on your computer screen by November 15th 2013. For trivia fans, the original cinema release date Little
Shop of Horrors the Movie is little over a month later on December 19!
Risks
Like
any other film, the quality and production schedule all depends on both the
funding and the availability of materials, cast and equipment. While we will do
everything in our power to ensure the movie is made, there may be set backs due
to any of the above. We’ve been
planning this film for nearly 2 years now but this is the first time we are
sourcing help to get it made, we are determined to see this film through because
we think the world deserves it!
Thanks for reading, we can't wait to make this film with you!
And remember... don't feed the plants!
