The product
With a weight of 42kg in homologated version, the LMX 161-H is half the weight of combustion bikes of similar performance such as 85cc cross bikes.
![]()
Developed in France for riders and by riders, the LMX 161-H is optimized for extreme off-road use.
![]()
Now we need your help to reach for the next big step: making it street legal.
![]()
With this campaign we will fund the certification of the bike to enable registration as a L1E-B (50CC) moped in Europe.![]()
While the bike will not be street legal as a moped in the US when it ships, we will offer the option to have working pedals that makes the LMX 161 a motor assisted bicycle in most US states, with reduced power and top speed. You can also use your LMX 161 as an offroad motorbike, and still get your bike much cheaper than the regular price!
Features
![]()
The LMX 161 uses a mix of the strongest downhill MTB parts and the lightest motorcycle components to reach both light weight and great reliability. All the parts selected are validated to comply with L1E-B requirements.
L for Lightweight
Having a off-road bike so light changes everything about offroad riding, making the ride experience much closer to downhill MTB, no hills needed.

Accessible to all riders
The weight makes it easy for beginners or first time riders to have fun with limited risks. The bike also features two ride modes : ECO, and Boost.
In ECO mode, the maximum power limited to about 3000W, making the bike very easy to control and safe for all riders. Flip it in Boost, and the full 8000W of electrical power is available for maximum performance.
Street legal
Ride safely and legally thanks to homologation, and be covered in case something happens on or off-road. Reach new trails and landscapes right from your home, and make your commute a lot more fun. For the US, the optional pedal attachment enables to use the bike as a motorized bicycle.
High Performance
The LMX 161 is a high performance motorcycle, with acceleration comparable to a 85cc offroad motorbike. With over 300 N.m at the back wheel available from zero RPM, the LMX 161-H really takes advantage of the electric drive train characteristics.
The linkage suspension provides a progressive leverage ratio, giving the bike good suspension performance for high speed bumps and rough landings.
Quick swap battery
Ride longer using multiple batteries, or bring your battery up to your apartment for charging.
Having a quick swap battery makes it easy to keep your LMX 161 charged. The 12 kg battery is released by a key lock and features a strap for easy handling. The light weight of the LMX 161 without the battery enables easy loading in your car or on a bike rack.
Low maintenance
The electric drive train and Igus® Iglidur® dry bearings makes the LMX 161 low maintenance and long lasting compared to other high performance off-road bikes.
The Samsung® 30Q cells used in our battery are rated 300 cycles to 75% of initial capacity at full power. This translates to about 750 hours of competition track time on a battery pack, and more than 40,000km of street use.
Thanks to forward planning in the bike's design and advances in battery capacity, the LMX 161-H battery will be upgradable in the future.
With electronic engine braking, the wear and tear on the brake pads during most braking situations, and about 5-10% energy can be regenerated.

Optional pedal attachment for LMX 161-H
The optional pedal attachment gives the LMX 161-H working pedals, to use it as a motorized bicycle in most US states with restricted top speed and power, usually 750W and 20mph max. Check your local regulations for more details.

The attachment bolts in place of the footpegs and features a 120 mm wide bottom bracket with crankset and pedals. A freewheel installed on the motor axle enables to use the engine without spinning the cranks. The system is designed to pedal up to 5km/h, pedaling at higher speed is not possible due to high reduction ratio.
Switching between pedals and foot pegs is possible by design.

Industrialisation and suppliers selection
We started selling the offroad LMX 161 in January 2017, and since that we produced in our French workshop 25 frames in 3 batches.
![]()
This production enabled us to know the challenges associated with production of the frames, and enabled us to make big progress on the industrialisation of the production. Now to reach the next step we have to get the frames produced externally.
Since 2014, we worked with different frame manufacturers, in Eastern Europe and in Asia. With this experience in internal and external frame production we will be able to bring the costs down and increase the quality.

About the company and team
![]()
LMX bikes was founded in 2014, as a collaboration between Adam and Lucas. Lmx is the trademark of the idea of a Lightweight Moto Cross (MX)![]()
MS Systemes SAS is a French company registered at the RCS Vienne, founded by Adam and Lucas in 2016 to enable further developments of the LMX Brand. More than 50 frames and complete bikes were sold since then.
In 2016, we developed a new MTB model with a patented dual drive system and we shifted to producing our bikes with aluminum frames, which make the bikes lightweight and durable. As a result, new and improved version of the LMX freeride motorcycle was born: the LMX 161.
In the first 6 months of 2017, 25 of the new bikes models were delivered. We are continuously improving our bikes every day to make quick progress on the quality and performance.
FAQ
Spare parts
A lot of the parts used on our bike are standard coming from DH and MX industry: the suspension, the tires, the brakes pads, and so on.
We always stock all the parts you can’t find elsewhere (motor, transmission, frames, batteries and electrical power components) to perform quick aftersale service procedures.
Bike maintenance
Thanks to its electric powertrain, the LMX161 is very low maintenance compared to similar gas powered dirt bikes.
The checkpoints are similar to a Downhill bicycle maintenance: tire pressure, suspension and brake cleaning and checking, chain lubrication and tension adjustment.
There is no particular maintenance required on the motor, battery and electrical devices of the bike.
An owner manual with detailed maintenance procedures and spare parts information will be sent with the bikes.
