Single-use plastics are polluting our oceans, littering our coastline, and killing marine life at alarming rates. By 2050, more plastic will be in the sea than fish (Plastic Pollution). This scary truth is why Local Scoop will never have single-use plastic lining its shelves. Instead, we will provide sustainable alternatives such as recycled glass and compostable paper.
Bulk grocery shopping enables customers to buy more affordable food with less waste. Instead of adding trash to landfills that generate harmful levels of methane gas and contribute to the deterioration of our ozone, customers can purchase shelf-stable pantry items, plastic-free produce, and small quantities of ingredients at lower costs to save food and money (EPA).
Imagine a shopping experience that didn't require sorting through labels and ingredients to ensure products are safe and healthy for you and your family. Local Scoop is fundamentally committed to offering products that are nutrient-dense and non-toxic. Our ingredients are mostly organic, non-GMO, and contain recognizable, whole-food ingredients.
Step 1: Bring containers from home, grab one of the sanitized donation jars from our recycling program, or purchase one in the store. Need something light on the go? Snag one of our fully compostable brown bags for grab-n-go snacks and treats!
Step 2: Quickly weigh and slide a tag around your container.
Step 3: Fill up with as much or as little as you need.
Step 4: Bring items to the checkout to be weighed. Pay and head out (or hang out!)
Actually, we're here today to ask you what you want to see! The possibilities are endless- think TJ's prices without all that packaging because affordability = accessibility, and we're starting with the most packaging-intensive stuff!
In the comments, let us know what you want and need at Local Scoop. Some ideas include:
We need your help! To get the store up and running, we secured an investment, drained our life savings, and bootstrapped everything we could up until now. Now all that is left is the final $20,000 to bring this store to life in our community.
A HUGE thank you to our incredible sponsors for their product donations and for doing their part in making low-waste living so simple!
