Cooking oil is one of the cheapest and familiar ingredients as it is easily found from grocery stores in the city to tiny kiosk shops in a remote area.

Olive, canola and sunflower oil, it doesn't matter what kind of cooking oil is. Without any batteries or external power supply, only with tiny flame which is as big as candle, Lumir K gives you an instant and 100 times brighter light.

With a goal to light up the world, team Lumir had a successful campaign with our first product, candle powered LED lamp.

We promised to keep developing solutions for families in the off-grid area and finally came back with Lumir K by improving efficiency and changing fuel as cooking oil.

Lumir K achieved CE and its core technology is patented. We are happy to share this achievement with you, and we need your support to take one step further.

Our journey started from a small but momentous experience during the trip to India, learning that there are so many places around the world suffering from unreliable or no electricity supply.

Among 1.2 billion who do not have access to electricity, most of them rely on candles or kerosene lamps which is dark, harmful for health and the environment. Using kerosene lamps indoors has the same effect as smoking 40 cigarettes and the cost for fuel takes up even 30% of the household's income.

Instead of unreliable supply,

Isn't it be possible to maximize the light from a candle or a kerosene lamp?

That was the question that led us to invent Lumir K as an effective solution for the light shortage issue.

In the case of kerosene lamps, only 10% of the energy from the fuel is used for illuminating because the flame itself is the direct light, and the rest, 90% of the energy is just scattered in the air as a heat. 
However, Lumir K harnesses the wasted 90% of the heat energy to turn on the LEDs, so it is pretty economical as it provides a brighter light only with a small flame.

LUMIR K can be used anytime and anywhere while solar lamps has a big weather constraints in many areas like Indonesia where the average rainy days are more than 160 days. 

After our first crowdfunding campaign, we became a partner of KOICA, Korean International Cooperation Agency, and Lumir K was piloted in Indonesia.

Lumir K provides 4.1 times brighter light than kerosene lamps, while its economic effect was also achieved with 80% lower fuel consumption compared to kerosene lamps. It also reduces carbon emissions by about 90%.

 Lumir K harnesses the heat energy of a small flame which usually scattered into the air and generate electricity. Without any external power supply, it lights up LEDs which is almost 100 times brighter than a candlelight. 

 Just placing the lamp over the lit wick will turn the LED light on.

Lumir K is powered cooking oil, which is easy to get and is affordable wherever you are.

It consumes only 5ml of oil for an hour, as much as you might spill when you cook. It means that you can light up Lumir K for 1 month with 1 liter of oil.

The fuel container can hold up to 140ml.
It is enough to light up the lamp for a week when you use 4 hours every day.

2cm is enough for the size of a flame. Making a flame bigger than that is not recommended.

*Lumir K is designed to use cooking oil as fuel. Avoid using other fuels like gasoline, which is explosive and highly flammable.

Need Your Support

Currently, we are working with many organizations to bring the light to the off-grid world, especially where solar products are limited to fully function due to the climates, like Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, etc.

For every "Give" perks funded from the campaign, Lumir K will be distributed to power families in a remote village in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Under cooperation with a government organization, Volunteer distribution trip is going to be in September and all the process will be shared via updates and newsletter!

Q: Is it possible to use the headlight in different directions?

A: LUMIR K has an adjustable LED headlight. However, if you turn it too far in one direction, the internal wires can be broken, so please be careful to use.

Q: Does it work with other fuel except cooking oil?

A: LUMIR K is designed as a cooking oil LED lamp. Avoid using any other fuel like gasoline or ethanol to prevent the fire hazard or accident.

Q:  Can Lumir K be powered by any cooking oil?

A: It might have different performance depends on the type. But basically, you can use any cooking oil.

Q: How much does shipping cost and where do you ship?

​A: The rewards will be shipped worldwide, but shipping cost depends on the destination.

Q: How bright is it?

A: LUMIR K has a brightness of 96.79 lumens.

Q: I'd like to help another region. How can I support them?

A: It's possible by backing the last perk option, "Empower 100 families". Lumir K will be sent with the backer's name-patch to the place where you want, But you are responsible for all procedures and expenses that occur while delivery.

Q: Isn't there any ON/OFF switch?

A: No. If you put LUMIR K on the lit wick, LED will become bright gradually and if you blow out on the top of LUMIR K, it will start to get dim. That's it!

Q: What is the lifespan of LUMIR K?

A: The thermoelectric module's life is commonly expected 10 years and LED's life is about 50,000 hours.

Q: What are the advantages that LUMIR K has than a solar lamp for undeveloped countries?

A: Of course, a solar lamp is a really good product for the undeveloped countries to light up the darkness. But when the weather was a little cloudy, some of the solar lamps weren't able to be recharged. Also, the more important problem was that there was no one to replace the rechargeable Li-ion batteries which have 1-2 years of life span. So we tried to make more light with cooking oil that they could easily get and is already commonly used.
