My name is Magda Andersson and I’m a professional music artist from Umeå, a medium sized city in northern Sweden. I’m a singer and guitarist in pirate folk band Ye Banished Privateers, and I have a folk/pop/storytelling solo project in Swedish with which I have released four records and a few singles since I started in 2014. For a long time I have been curious what it would be like writing songs and performing them as a solo artist with English lyrics and taking an international approach with my music career - and that’s happening now! My alter ego Magda Novels appeared from the shadows within myself about two years ago. I have been working on the music ever since and now it’s time to reveal her to the world.
Magda Novels lets me explore the more subconscious parts of myself through music. The irrational parts where instincts and dreams come from. If I were to try describing what the music sounds like inside my head it would be “dark americana meets pop melodies and rock n’ roll attitude”, and hopefully it comes out something similar to that. The sound is still in the folk realm with focus on storytelling and vocal performance, lyrics are in English. My musical inspiration for this project comes from artists like Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, First Aid Kit and Joni Mitchell - all are important role models for me as songwriters and musicians.
Now I need your help to put Magda Novels on a stage and have the music play in your stereos and headphones!
The goal with the campaign is to finance the production of an EP with four songs, a music video and to enable an international album release tour.
The campaign is divided into three ”stretch goals”, meaning if we do reach the first tier I will be able to produce the physical CD’s and vinyls but not the music video or make the release tour happen according to my vision. The stretch goals look like this:
- 5.000 euro: EP in physical form (CD & vinyl)
The first four songs are currently being produced and will release in the spring of 2023.
I want to create a music video to deepen and enhance the experience of the music through visual art, to be released at the same time as the EP.
- 10.000 euro: release tour in five European countries
The main goal with Magda Novels is to play live concerts. I’m planning for a full stage production with well made light- and sound design and visual effects. I want every show to be special. The funds from the campaign will make it possible for me to make my vision real.

All the money from the campaign will go towards producing and organizing the release tour, making a music video and finishing the production of the first CDs and vinyls. The costs include music- and video producers, photographers, graphic designers, light- and sound designers, sound equipment, printing CD’s and vinyls, manufacturing and delivering campaign perks, crowdfunding platform fees, musician fees, marketing, travel costs and accommodation during the tour, and more.
