FISDIR is the Italian Federation of Sports for Intellectual and Relational Disabled.
Recognized by the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) as the organization responsible
in Italy for the national and international events reserved to all the athletes
registered inside the Federation, it was born in 2009.
People with Down
Syndrome, Autism Syndrome, Border Line and all the others kind of
intellectual disabilities can compete in 19 sports divided into two
groups: Official (athletic, bowls, futsal, equitation, judo,
gymnastic, swimming, rescue swimming, synchronized swimming, basketball, alpine
and nordic skiing, tennis, table tennis) and Experimental (football,
volleyball, waterbasket, dips and archery).
FISDIR is both responsible for starting and
introducing people in sport, than to afford in competing in top level events. From London 2012 intellectual and relational
disabled are allowed to compete in Paralympic Games. Athletic, Swimming and
Table Tennis are the three disciplines that the International Paralympic Committee decided to introduce in the
Paralympic Programme.
What FISDIR is trying to do is helping people,
throw sport activities, in finding a new dimension in life: our athletes are
citizens in the world who want to work, study, practice their favourite sport
activities.
What this campaign want to reach is the possibility
for this people to “Make a Dream Come
True”, to have the possibility to compete in a World Event reserved to
People with Down Syndrome. The help of contributors is necessary to allow Down
swimmers to compete in 2014 World Swimming DSISO (Down Syndrome International
Swimming Organization) Championships, event which will take place in Morelia,
Mexico from the 7th to the 17th of November 2014.
Our dream is to bring an Italian Delegation in
Morelia (Mexico) composed by 16 athletes.
We consider $ 57000 the minimum to
encounter the expenses for trips, meals and hotels.
People who will support us will receive perks.
What we want to show with our perks is that in FISDIR doesn’t exist the word impossible, but we only know the meaning
of the word possible … this is
possible only if you #OpenYourHeart.
For this reasons, a part pins and pennants,
we’ll share the contributions with fantastic perks branded with the hashtag #OpenYourHearth,
the best way in our opinion to represent our daily sacrifices and your
economical contributions to support our great athletes that, throw sports, want
to destroy barriers and crossing borders.
People with intellectual disability represent
an important cost for our societies: therapies are very expensives. But what we
can demonstrate is that all the intellectual and relational disabled who
practice sport use a low number of medical therapies during the day. It means
that more we invest on sports and less we’ll spend in therapies (improving
their lives style quality).
But, first of all, they are athletes: just
compare the followings world records between Italian Down Syndrome athletes and
“normal” athletes in Short Course (25 metres):

you’ll discover a new world, the world of FISDIR!
