My name is James Redpath and I am writing to you in regards to the short film I would like to produce, “Masterpiece”.  The film is a story about an artist, who after an accident that resulted in the death of his wife, is suffering from PTSD.  He seeks treatment for his condition, but the treatment itself causes an adverse reaction that leaves him questioning his sanity. Part psychological thriller and part drama, “Masterpiece” is a story of dealing with grief, and how to let go of the past.

Ever since I was young I have been involved in the performing arts, in one way or another. My mother, being an actress and holding a degree in costume design, would always be working on some kind of production, usually toting me along. I myself, have been involved in performing arts, working at one of the biggest theaters in Maine.  I have helped produce and coordinate events involoving: Barrak Obama, Bill Clinton, Mumford and Son's, David Chappelle, and Yo-Yo Ma, amongts many others.  I am no stranger to the rigors of production and the importance of seeing things through while managing multiple deadlines.

“Masterpiece” was recently selected to be a part of the Maine Mayhem film festival.  The festival is now in its tenth year.  Through classes at Southern Maine Community College, students are given a chance to submit scripts, pre-production materials, and trailers to be considered to have their films be Greenlit.

The film will be premiering at The Nickelodeon Cinema in Portland Maine on May 7th, 2020.  This year, out of the 17 submissions, 7 films were selected.

While I plan on taking a minimal approach when shooting "Masterpiece, there are costs associated with the production.  With your help, I can raise the money for expendables, salaries, and most importantly, to feed my hardworking crew. Any additional funds this campaign will raise will be put into the budget for, higher-end film equipment, post-production mastering and effects, and quality craft services for cast and crew.  If I do not reach my goal, the film will still be made.

In this campaign, you will see I have lots of interesting incentives.  Their true value lies in the connection you will have to the project you have so generously contributed to.  Aside from financial help, you can contribute to this effort by sharing the campaign. Also, you can offer any assistance with your own skills, talents, or connections.

Thank you so much for your support.  See you at the premiere, of "Masterpiece".

Synopsis

Holding himself responsible for the sudden death of his wife, an artist begins to paint his masterpiece, while desperately struggling to maintain his grip on reality. Cleared of any wrongdoing, Everett is guilt-stricken and cannot forgive himself for what happened. Suffering from stress of the event, he becomes overwhelmingly inspired.

The more he paints, the more he sees the image of his wife come through in his work. He cannot explain why this is happening and is convinced that supernatural forces are at play. Seeking help from a therapist, Everett forgoes an alternative treatment for PTSD that he is suffering from. The treatment, “Tapping” is a technique used to calm one's Amygdala, the part of the brain that processes fear. Alongside this therapy, Everett develops a Mantra…” It wasn’t my fault, I am forgiven, I’m moving on”.

As a result of Tapping, Everett puts himself into an “Amygdala Hijack” which causes hallucinations. Embracing the fear, Everett goes against the advice of his therapist to stop the Tapping. He allows the encounters to continue to unfold, and in the end, comes to an inner resolution. One that helps him move forward and let go of the past.
