The Story
Amanda Bachman is an average middle age woman with a simple home, an adoring husband and a precious six year old daughter. And she couldn't be more content. If it wasn't for the fact that her husband's company has suddenly decided it best to move to China and eliminate most of the jobs, maybe things could stay that way. Well, no matter, Amanda and a few of the other housewives are used to having to quietly keep their world on an even keel. Hopefully this time it won't require too much blood...
The Impact
One day Jasmine Golphin handed her friend Jayson Jaworski six pages of two roughly drawn-out scenes for him to read. Jayson, a man of few words, read the pages and said "We need to make this a movie". With that, the two spent the next month writing what is now the feature length script "Maternal Pride" with every intention to shoot it sometime soon. Then they realized neither one of them had made a feature length film before...
These two are apart of a small group of film students from Cleveland State University that aren't planning on leaving Cleveland anytime soon. Jasmine and Jayson specifically would be more than thrilled if they could spend their lives making films here in Cleveland. That's why this first project is so important. Supporting these young artists would be supporting a breath of fresh air into this city. This film isn't just another zombie flick, silly comedy or Spiderman 2. This film is home grown and will be made by your neighbors. All these filmmakers want to do is bring you better movies. But they need your help.
Be a part of something bigger than yourself. Help make Cleveland be known for more than losing sports teams and tough winters. Show the world Cleveland supports its artists.
And help make a black girl's (and her white friend's) dream come true.
What We Need & What You Get
Now to be fair, this is a daunting task. People have openly questioned the
pair's sanity. But it's not going to get any easier to make that first film. So let's get started...
The $45,000 will go to the production of the the film itself (another $15,000 will be raised separately for post production). A portion of these funds will go to make sure actors and crew members can be recouped for taking days off to shoot. The rest will go to everything in front of the camera to ensure a quality piece of art is made from your dollars. Making our goal will of course be ideal, but please know that even if the goal is not met, the film will get made (though the production date may have to be pushed as a result). All these filmmakers want to do is make films, and every moment they aren't is a moment they regret.
But you still wonder, aside from the warm and fuzzies, what's in it for you? Fair enough. Well depending on your donation you can receive a copy of the film, passes to promotional events and screenings, an exclusive graphic novel written by Jasmine Golphin and/or access to bonus short films. Plus everyone who donated will get a special thanks in the credits!!
But trust me warm and fuzzies are just as awesome. So stop reading and donate!
Other Ways You Can Help
Alright, you've donated and now you wonder what you can do next. Well you are on the internet aren't you? Then share this with people you know! The biggest thing this project needs is more people willing to help. Spread the word!
The other thing you can do is demand your updates! Email, post questions here, find us on Facebook, send a carrier pigeon. You've donated your money and now you deserve to see progress. So pester us, let us know you really want to see this come to life. There is nothing easy about the filmmaking process but your support will make the pain better.
Oct 18th 2010- You know what else would be a big help? In lieu of a monetary donation, if you have a house or office space we can shoot in that would be AMAZING! Preferably something in the greater Cleveland area but I'm not too picky.
