Why I'm Telling This Story
The theme of the movie is beautiful lies. Even the most intelligent and educated people will succumb to beautiful lies when they want to believe in something bad enough. We see it in politics as well as in people's social and personal lives.
A good example is scams in online dating. Just a few days ago, I met a nice guy who had sent over a thousand dollars to someone in a foreign country whom he had never met. She told him to send her money so she could buy a plane ticket to see him. Now why couldn't he just buy her the plane ticket? Because she told him she had an local agent. He admitted that all of his friends had told him he was crazy for sending money and that it was a scam. Unfortunately, he was clearly very lonely and those emotions led him to believe in the ridiculous.
This film explores the theme of beautiful lies in comedic fashion with two guys who open up a McDojo, a martial arts gym that teaches people fighting techniques that have little or no practical application in a real-life fight, to scam the people of Nashville out of their money. One of the two main characters starts to believe in what they're teaching, which creates a conflict that challenges their financial future as well as their lifelong friendship.
About Me
Well, I certainly have the life experience! I'm originally from Panama City, Florida. While studying Spanish and Psychology at the University of Florida, I studied abroad in Guanajuato, Mexico for two semesters. After graduating, I traveled the world and taught English in Madrid, Spain for a while. When I got back to the US, I spent years as a salesperson to fund my trips across this country and abroad. Finally, I studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in the Miami branch. With your help, this will be my first feature film as a director!
About the Filming
We will shoot the film in November and will finish the editing before February, provided the necessary funds are available. The film will be shot in Nashville, TN.
What We Need
My goal is 94,000 dollars and here's how it breaks down.
- 49,000 is for the cast and crew, including the hair and makeup artist.
- 18,000 is for the equipment rental, insurance, and food for the cast and crew.
- 13,000 is for post production.
- 14,000 is for the marketing of the film and submissions to film festivals.
What if we don't reach our goal?
Indiegogo is the only platform that allows campaigns to keep the money they raise if they don't reach their goal, regardless of how short they fall. In the digital age of filmmaking, movies can be shot for less than what we're trying to raise; 94,000 makes it a lot easier than on a shoestring budget. The cast and crew are willing to make sacrifices to make this film happen. If we fall short, the film will still be made, just completed at a later date in the spring of 2019 so your contributions help even if we fall short of our goal.
