Our Story

My brother, David, was in a horrible freak car accident when he was heading home from the store.  There was a lady traveling in the opposite direction that hit a sign causing it and more importantly its base to come into my brother's lane.  The sign base came through the roof of the truck he was driving right at the top of the windshield hitting him in the face and chest.  Luckily for David, our father was in the truck and immediately performed first aid and got life flight immediately dispatched.  He ended up with a broken neck (luckily no paralysis), a pulverized jaw, a broken clavicle, a broken scapula and many other injuries.  He has fought back and is in stable condition and will soon be released to go home.  He now begins a long recovery process which will include multiple surgeries and an estimated year recovery time to be back to a medical device and procedure free lifestyle.

The Impact

David's family consists of himself, his wife Keely (of three years) and his brand new baby Evelyn who was born in June.  With the blessing of a new child, they purchased a new home in Stansbury Park in August and were building their dream life.  His job has promised to hold his spot, but he is a dispatcher which requires him to be on the phone and to be running multiple computers, scanners, and phones all at the same time so he isn't likely to be able to return to work until this surgeries are all complete.  This puts him and his wife in a serious income crunch has he hasn't worked at his current job long enough to receive long term disability through his employer.  This puts a strain on all the families involved as we try and sacrifice and find the money to keep their mortgage payments paid and food for him and his baby.  My aunt had saw this site on television so her and I decided to see if we could try and raise money to help them with their mortgage payments.

What We Need & What You Get

What we are looking for is enough money to give to David and Keely so that their mortgage can be paid for the next year while David is rehabbing and trying to get back to his job.  His mortgage is roughly $1,100 a month and so $1,100 x 12 months = our $13,200 goal.  Donations will go only for their mortgage payments and if David is able to return to work before a year he would gladly refund money to those people who helped him out.   Donors will be given updates frequently about David and how he is doing as well as all the thanks that our family can give.  (Not to mention an untold amount of good karma).

Other Ways You Can Help

Prayers, prayers and more prayers.  My brother has been powered by prayer since his accident on Thursday December 29th, 2011.  There is also a donation account set up for David at U.S. Bank and people can make donations there.  Also, if you have other ideas about how you could help their family would love to hear about it.  Please shoot me an email and we can discuss anything you would like: richard.sohler@gmail.com.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.
