Michael Chapel is not just another vanity book project, it is a rescue mission! Michael Harold Chapel is a decorated veteran and former Gwinnett County (Georgia) police officer, wrongfully convicted for the 1993 murder of Emogene Thompson of Sugar Hill.
At the 1995 trial, which ran opposite of the OJ Simpson trial on Court TV, crucial evidence was manipulated, lost, destroyed, and otherwise suppressed and Chapel was denied a fair trial. The District Attorney in the case spent the next twenty-five years opposing proper DNA testing, and stood in the way of a fair appeals process.
On April 15, 2021, on the 28th anniversary of the murder, the newly elected District Attorney announced the formation of the Convictions Integrity Unit to look into past wrongful convictions and for the first time in nearly three decades, the Chapel family has hope that truth and justice will finally prevail.
We launched the Michael Chapel is Innocent Facebook Group and a Kickstarter project in April, 2021. The Facebook Group has grown to nearly 500 active members and we were fortunate to achieve 113% of our Kickstarter goal.
Indiegogo funds will be used to publish the book, multi-media pitch documentation and video, and other projects concerning this case, in an effort to make known the tragic and infuriating true story of a man, a family, and an entire community denied justice for nearly three decades.
Let the truth prevail though the heavens fall.
