Summary
Welcome to the IndieGoGo campaign for the not-for-profit feature documentary film, “Miracle on 42nd Street,” directed by Academy Award-nominated director, Alice Elliott. This is the first major film about the amazing true story of the apartment complex Manhattan Plaza, affordable housing, and how performing artists pioneered the revitalization of the blighted Broadway and mid-town Manhattan area in the 1970s.
“Miracle on 42nd Street” is now completed and ready for worldwide distribution! The film was produced as a registered 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation.
“Miracle on 42nd Street” was a passion project, started by people whose lives were dramatically impacted in those early days and who credit Manhattan Plaza with helping them survive their early struggles in the arts and entertainment field. It’s about the value of the arts and artists in America and how they can be culturally and economically transformative. Across America, creative place-makers are now using the same model established by Manhattan Plaza to revitalize troubled cities.
“Miracle on 42nd Street” features exclusive interviews with an ALL STAR cast whose lives were touch by Manhattan Plaza, including LARRY DAVID (co-creator of “Seinfeld”), ALICIA KEYS (recording artist), TERRENCE HOWARD (“Empire”), GIANCARLO ESPOSITO (“Breaking Bad”), DONALD FAISON (“Scrubs”), SAMUEL L. JACKSON (“The Avengers”), ANGELA LANSBURY (“Murder, She Wrote”) and many more. The film is narrated by award-winning playwright/actor CHAZ PALMINTERI (“A Bronx Tale”).
The film was produced by a mostly all-woman team of established filmmakers, led by Academy Award-nominated director Alice Elliott. Other notable producers with long lists of credits include casting directors Mary Jo Slater and Nancy Perkins, Producer/Editor Lisa Shreve, Producers Erika Lockridge, Joanne Storkan, Cindy Cowan, Cindy Bond, Julie Howe, Eric Small, and Ken Aguado.
The film has been playing to acclaim at film festivals around the country. But now it’s time to bring this important story to a world audience.
What We Need & Why We Need It
The cost to license archival media and music is very expensive. Before a film can be delivered for distribution, all rights must be licensed and cleared. Like many documentaries, funding is scarce and “Miracle on 42nd Street” only had enough initial funding to license media materials for a (lower cost) festival license. Those licenses will expire this fall. The clock is ticking on the life of this film.
This film has offers from several established indie distributors and broadcast interest from public television, Upon the successful completion of this campaign, you should be seeing the film very soon! Thank you all for your support!

Other Ways to Help
Please help us get the word out using social media and the Indiegogo share tools! You can help us change the conversation about the arts in America, and help improve the artistic fabric of our lives! “Miracle on 42nd Street” is a film that proves that the arts and artists can be an economic growth generator. Think about the music, and films, and theater, and fine art that you enjoy, and now try to imagine where you live without these things and the people who create them. Education budgets for the arts are always under pressure as a “luxury” item, despite the real economic value they bring to all our lives.
