The Smart Strap
Modillian smart strap
connects to most wristwatches, and pairs with your Android phone over
Bluetooth®. The smart strap then provides discrete vibrating alerts on
incoming calls, text messages, and other important events. This way, you can attend meetings and events where you cannot access your smartphone, and get those notifications - while wearing your favorite old watch, without having to replace it with a bulky "smart-watch".
The smart strap is the brainchild of Eran Reuveni, an industrial engineer and lover of both electronic gadgets and classic analog watches. Looking to enjoy the benefits of smart-watch notifications, while not having to depart from his favorite wristwatch, Eran joined electronics engineer Gilad Kirshenboim and started developing the Modillian smart strap.

Think of all those times when you had to put your phone away, in business meetings or personal events. This is where our solution really shines! Because:

FUNCTIONALITY
Q: Can I configure the smart strap to notify only on certain types of
events, or on calls from specific numbers?
Absolutely, any type of notification can be turned on or off
individually. Plus, you can specify which caller, SMS sender, or Email sender,
you wish to get notified of.
Q: Do notifications create any visual or aural indication?
The smart strap only vibrates. The device is intended to provide
discrete notifications which would only be sensed by the wearer - not seen or
heard by anyone else.
Q: Do you plan to add more functions and alert types in the future?
Yes we do. This will only require updating the mobile app, there will
not be any need to replace or upgrade the smart strap components.
STRAP & BUCKLE
Q: Which wristwatches can the Modillian strap connect to?
We currently offer straps that are 20 or 22 mm wide, which fit many
modern men’s watches with matching lug width of 20/22 mm.
Q: How can I check the strap fits my watch?
If your watch lug width is 20 or 22mm, and it does not use special
straps that can only be replaced by the manufacturer, you’ll find a Modillian
strap that fits. Not sure about your watch lug width? you can measure your
current strap’s width, check with a local watch store, or send us the model
reference no. and we’ll try to help!
Q: How do I attach the Smart Strap to my wristwatch?
It is quite a simple operation, which you can complete in 10 minutes at
home, if you have steady hands: read this article to learn how to change strapsquickly and easily. Or if you prefer, have it done at a local watch store,
they’ll probably do this service at minimal fee (or free, if they’re nice).
Q: What straps are you using?
There are currently a number of strap options available to pre-order –
all of them are very high quality leather straps manufactured by renowned
Hirsch AG.
Q: Can I attach just the Modillian buckle to a strap of my choice?
Yes you can! The Modillian buckle, which contains the smart device, can
be attached to any strap with 20mm width at the buckle end.
MOBILE APP
Q: Which smartphones is the Modillian App compatible with?
Our app currently supports any smartphone using Android version 4.0-4.3.
Q: Is the app free?
Yes of course, the Modillian App is completely free.
Q: Why do I need to download an app to use the Smart Strap?
The app is the software that lets you decide which alert notifications
you’ll receive on the smart strap. The app catches relevant events happening on
your smart phone, and creates the alerts.
Q: Does the app collect any data about me and my phone usage?
No it does not. What you do with your smartphone is your business, our
business is just producing smart devices...
Q: Does the app affect the normal operation of my phone?
The app is very “low profile”, and with most phones its impact should be
completely unnoticeable.
Q: Why don’t you have an iOS app?
Capturing events like phone calls on iOS is more difficult, and at this
stage we prefer to focus our attention on providing the product with the
highest quality, rather than chasing a bigger market. We certainly hope to do
an iOS app in the future, which will work with the same device.
CHARGING
Q: How does the smart strap get charged?
The strap gets charged using a standard micro-USB connector. The
connection is hidden in the buckle, and is not visible while wearing it.
Q: How often would I need to charge it?
With everyday use, we expect a full charge to last for about a week. If
you only wear the smart strap occasionally, it might last much longer.

Q: Who are you, Modillian?
The team is lead by Eran Reuveni, an
industrial engineer, entrepreneur, co-founder of a successful software
company that now employs 120 people, and inventor of the Smart Strap; and Gilad Kirshenboim, an experienced electronics engineer
who participated in the development of many products before. We’re working with
a great team of professional designers and developers.
Q: Who created the detailed design of the product?
The industrial design of the smart strap (mainly, the buckle) is the
work of the very talented team at Tenenbaum Hazan Design studio.
