Short Summary

This is a short film being created in Sweden by 3rd year students from Solent University.

The story follows friends, David, Johan and Kurt from Värmland in Sweden, as they try to navigate their early life friendship throughout the challenges that come with adulthood and especially David’s unwillingness to let go of the past. Struggling with self-doubt and lack of enthusiasm for the future, David attempts to have one night together where they can be as young, excitable and frivolous as they used to be, believing that if they just try hard enough, they can become the same people they once were. However, he knows both Johan and Kurt are heading down paths he is not ready to follow, and that the magic surrounding their group, which David refers to as ‘Molkom-core’, has passed at last.

“After dabbling with various genres such as thrillers, melodrama and horror, I have decided to make this film more personal, inspired by my own life experiences and the people who have been a part of those experiences. To achieve this fully, I have decided to go back to my roots, setting the story in my home region of Värmland, Sweden. With Molkom-Core I want to explore that strange feeling that you and the people around you are changing. Like when you are watching old videos of a wild party, and you start to question why things aren’t like that anymore. It was a moment that you maybe didn’t appreciate as much then, but as it has passed you suddenly cherish it dearly.” - Carl Axel Eduard, Director

Who am I and what does this campaign mean to me?

My name is Henry and I am the Producer for our film Molkom-Core. I grew up in West Sussex, England and became obsessed with films and the creative side of making them in my childhood. I studied filmmaking at college in Brighton before I came to study at Solent University, Southampton. I am now in my last year of my studies and have taken on this role to ensure that this intriguing story be told and for the crew I work with to not only be able to work professionally without trouble, but to also have fun. The opportunity to film in Sweden is so exciting as I have been to Sweden many times before and have been in love with the country since my first visit. The contributions we gain for this campaign will make all this work possible by helping us with travel expenses, accommodation, food, production design and more. For more information we have a website you should definitely check out called molkomcore.com where you can read more into the crew and the project we’re working on.

What is the importance of our contributors?

The importance of our contributors extends to the whole creation of the film from travel money, catering for the cast and crew, accommodation, entry money for film festivals and the production design that will bring our story to life. As students we dedicate the majority of our time towards our creative ambitions, which lead to passionate projects that we can give back to the world through entertaining stories and the temporary escape from reality by engrossing oneself with the stories of characters on the screen.

The contributions we receive for our campaign will help us achieve the completion of the most important project of our university journeys. Our time as students has led us all to this moment and we are all very excited to bring this story to you.

What we need and what you get

The film will be shot in Sweden, which means that the main crew needs to be able to travel across borders to arrive at our filming location. In order to do this we have created a budget that will not only cover the production and post production, but also the travel requirements it will cost to get there and the accommodation for our actors. The total budget for our film is £4262.50. This includes emergency money and entry money for film festivals.

Contribution Rewards we are offering:

£10 - Thank you credit on our social media

£20 - Thank you in credits and access to the film via link

£25 - Thank you in credits and early access to the film via link

£30 - Formal invitation to private screening at Harbour Lights, Southampton

£40 - Access to Behind-the-Scenes footage and script

£50 - Access to crew detailed breakdown of film

The Impact

Making art and allowing other people to see a bit of oneself is incredibly impactful to the world, no matter if it is the work of one person or a hundred. This project is the Final Major Project of our Bachelor’s degree, and your contribution will help our vision come to life. As a Swedish aspiring filmmaker studying in England, the Director is very grateful to be able to show his culture to another part of the world, especially one that is not often shown in films.

Other ways you can help

We would massively appreciate the sharing of our campaign as it will help us expand our audience and possibly receive more contributions.
