Help make Mouffe ready-to-travel with the necessary equipment!
Mouffe is a
very unique kind of experience, and can be enjoyed by a very wide
range of audiences -- from families to festivals, from gamers to galleries. We
would very much like to bring Mouffe to more events; however this is difficult
due to the physical needs of the project.
It is very important to us that
Mouffe becomes a stand-alone, hassle-free package. With all the components in one place, Mouffe would be simple for any event coordinators to set up, even without any of our team members present. Owning equipment, like our own
projector, would mean that we wouldn't need to rely on our show venues to
provide it for us. We would be able to test and continue tweaking and improving
the game, in-house. Assistance on travel funds makes it easier for us to get it
to events it’s accepted to, no matter the location – it could be your city! We
would even be able to host the creation of more games for the tent and blanket
controller by other developers.
A
one-package Mouffe is an accessible Mouffe, and we want to bring it to you!
Update: We've reached 100%!! Thank you so much to everyone who donated and help us get the word out. We can't tell you how much we appreciate it.
Stretch Goals -- New Developers Making Games for Mouffe
One of Mouffe Team's goals has always been to turn the Mouffe set-up into a platform that various artists and developers can make their own games for. We'd really love to have new experiences that we can bring along with us to events and festivals.
Your donation will help us pay our collaborators, and further the exciting evolution of Mouffe.
With every $1000 stretch goal we meet, we will announce a new artist! They will each make a game that will be shown inside Mouffe (played with a blanket!) that will also be available to download for any funders at the $25 perk level and higher.
We're super happy to announce our first collaboration is with Montreal's Devine Lu Linvega. Check out our latest update for more information.
Mouffe is a
daydream simulator: while lying down inside a tent and using a quilt as a
controller, players set off abstract animations projected onto the ceiling of
the tent. It is an interactive art installation that is part-game and part-toy.
Lie down and experience visual, aural, and tactile satisfaction in a quiet,
intimate space. Press buttons, things happen. Relax and Play.
Mouffe pushes
at the borders of the games as a medium – it’s not downloadable and it's irreproducible; there’s no way to “win”, and no achievements to unlock. All
that being said, Mouffe is really FUN TO PLAY, and despite it being a
non-commercial piece, with your help we can get it into gamers’ (and everyone’s!)
hands.
Mouffe has been shown at the Google offices in Montreal, and in Austin, Texas. It was an official selection of IndieCade 2014 in Los Angeles and Gamercamp in Toronto.

The purpose
of this fundraising campaign is to:
● primarily, purchase the necessary equipment that
Mouffe needs to run, such as a short-throw projector and a suitable
container;
● offset any
travel or shipping costs that Mouffe incurs in order to tour the project
to different places.
It is a very
simple breakdown: we buy the equipment first, and funds we receive in excess
will go towards reimbursing transportation costs made in service to Mouffe. We
are not asking for much, but we are very grateful because every penny counts
towards getting Mouffe closer to you!
Your donation, no matter how big or small, is really important to us and we want you to know how much you have contributed to helping Mouffe. With your help, it can be seen by as many people as possible and continue to grow.
* Offensive pennant names may be subject to revision.
Check back often for campaign updates on this page to see previews of all the different perk items!
There is
actually very little risk involved in this donation campaign. With Indiegogo’s
flexibility, no matter what you decide to put in, that amount will go directly
to the project.
Mouffe was
never a commercial creation and we don’t ever want to charge for its
exhibition, so crowdfunding is the only way to cover future costs of the project. On the flip side, this also means that we will be asking
for this donation only once, and any investment that we receive from you will
go far.
At the end
of this campaign, no matter what happens, we plan to have that complete
package, ready to show around the world!
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How come there aren't multiple tents and blankets? May I have my own Mouffe?
Mouffe was originally created in an incubator program for experimental games at a university that provided much support and resources for its creation. Unfortunately, without that infrastructure and a working budget, we're unable to make multiple set-ups of Mouffe... for now.
2. Why aren't you including a digital build of the game for download?
The short answer is that the visual composition and gameplay are designed specifically for the tent. Without the Mouffe set-up, the experience just isn't the same, and a digital build cannot fully capture how wonderful it is. Half of the fun of Mouffe is who you play it with, so we hope instead to just be able to go to many places!
3. Where will Mouffe be in the future? I want to hang out in a Mouffe!
We have some upcoming events lined up to announce soon! Please check back often, here and on our website, www.mouffegame.com. Our first priority for now is to finish this campaign, and how it all turns out will be indicative of what Mouffe Team will be up to next. Looking forward to it!
Mouffe Team came
together at the Critical Hit Collaboratory program at Concordia University in

talents and varied backgrounds to explore experimental controllers and games
played in alternate spaces.
