Nautalytics was born out of the desire of two racing sailors looking for a reliable and simple-to-use digital magnetic compass. Founders, Quinn Schwenker and Justin Coplan, are accomplished sailors which means their ability to craft and supply a solution that works for sailors, our customers, and friends, is as good as it gets.
- Quinn is the trimmer for the J-24, Nautalytics, 2018 North American Champion, 2018 - 2017 Kiel Week Champion, 2013 US National Champion, and has nine top ten finishes at J-24 World Championships.
- Justin is a silver medalist at the 2015 Pan American Games and at the 2013 Lightning World Championships. He is also the tactician for the J-24, Nautalytics, 2018 North American Champion, 2018 Kiel Week Champion, and has many top ten finishes at J-24 World Championships.

We couldn't find one on the market that met our needs, so we made one.

We have all experienced it: a beautiful sailing day in the morning, and a storm front comes through the racecourse in the afternoon. We wanted a compass that we could see in all conditions with your polarized sunglasses on or off.
We developed our compass with an easy to see LCD display with large 1.4” high numbers that are visible in ALL weather conditions. Our compass has three primary features:
- Filters to allow use of polarized sunglasses with minimal black out zones
- A faceplate that doesn't create rainbows with polarized sunglasses
- Anti-glare coating
- Large numbers

- Count down timer for starts. Hit the GUN button to start the countdown, hit it again to synchronize down to the next whole minute. Set the timer between one- and nine-minutes. After the timer has counted down the compass is displayed.

See wind shifts: While racing sailboats, we use the compass to detect headers and lifts when sailing upwind. The ability to see the wind shift allows the crew to take advantage of the change in wind direction and sail less distance. Using a compass for racing is a fundamental skill for competitive sailing.
Navigation: Our compass can be used for navigation by anyone. Because it is a magnetic compass, it is affected by ferrous metals and is not ideal for all locations. This compass was not designed to be a primary navigation device nor to be used in aviation.

We launched our prototype in 2016 and our first-generation compass sold out, validating that our solution has merit and appeal in the sailing community.
Fast-forward a couple of years, and our startup has achieved good traction among sailors who, like us, were not happy with the compasses available on the market and have embraced our solution.
Racing teams have been using and winning with our magnetic compass. They provided valuable feedback which we have incorporated into the design of the this new and improved Nautalytics SIMPLE Compass.
We invite you to be part of the next chapter of Nautalytics!
