Who am I?
For those of you who aren't familiar with me, I've been singing since I could talk. And writing songs quickly became an indispensable facet of who I am.
I moved to Portland in 2010 with no job, but a strong determination to pursue music professionally. In 2013 I released my first EP on $40 with studio time won from area open mics. I sold 200 copies performing in clubs, to coffee houses to farmers markets over the next year.
In 2014, I met Mark Bowden at a show. He pried a bit into my musical world and intuitively understood my songwriting style. We soon began performing as a duo.
In 2015, we released my debut album, Into the Depths. Since then I've completed six tours across the states, and I've crafted a whole new album of songs.
What's this whole new album?
The new album is 11 songs and is called Be Loud. It's a very different album for me, and best described as a hybrid of "rock anthems" in cahoots with "piano ballads". The songs all stem from a boisterous persona I often suppress with my timid self, and they center around the idea that passion needs to be heard, so be loud. It features Colin Hogan and Brian Link of The Colin Trio, Cheo Larcombe of MarchFourth, and Mark Bowden (producer) of Buckin Savior Recordings.
What's the breakdown?
Your contributions will be used for the following:
-Mixing & Mastering - $1,700
-CD duplication (1,000 copies) - $1,000
-Studio costs & studio musicians - $1,000
-Album art - $300
-Music videos - $500
-Merchandise (shirts, stickers) - $500
What're the perks?
You can choose from a variety of perks (See to the right!), including the album on CD, or digital download. Also, stickers, T-shirts, handmade jewelry and an original song written by Karyn Ann! Yay!
Why choose Indiegogo now?
I funded my first full-length studio album out of my own pocket. That included the recording, the mixing, the mastering, and the CD duplication.
I've done the hard work. I can do it again. However, Indiegogo allows me the opportunity to integrate my fans into the creation process. You are the reason I'm even here today, and this is the best way I could think of to say "thank you".
Risks & Challenges
I've never been the type to ask for help. Even writing this all out has gotten me into tears. But my friends and family have been very encouraging through the process. Asking for help is also harder than not asking.
Ultimately, the biggest challenge will be to keep my sanity for the next 40 days.
How else can you help?
Every little bit of effort counts. If you can't contribute monetarily, the best thing you can do is spread the word and share the campaign via Facebook, Twitter, or the good ol' word-of-mouth.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Love, Karyn Ann
