Short Summary
Hi I’m Chris, I started the band Fallstar back in 2007 and have made lots of music and toured since then. Northlander is a new band I’ve started with Bryan and Cody, and we’ve finally finished "Forces of Light" the first of what I hope to be many more albums. After releasing "Future Golden Age" we found it hard to keep writing heavy, and releasing something better than that album was pretty daunting. However, we’ve had so many songs on the tip of our tongue that we wanted to create outside of heavy music, and decided now was the time to make that happen.
This record “Forces of Light” was written during the hardest years of my life, and writing these songs helped me get by. Redemption stories are the only stories I wanna hear or tell, and contrary to past records, this cycle occurs over the length of the album, rather than resolving in each song. Besides being well written kick ass songs, my hope is that these songs will be stuck in your head for when you need um. I wrote 12 songs for this record(Bryan wrote the other 2, and I fear once y’all hear those you won’t care about the rest of the record:) and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had writing music. Musically we did some weirdly awesome things(as we do), we had amazing people work with us(Ryan Furlott of Rain City Audio | Mike Kalajian of Rogue Planet Mastering) and we’re so proud of this music and dying for it to be out. That’s where you come in.
The three of us have invested a decent amount into making this music happen because we believe in it. Now we just need a little extra push to make this thing happen. This record is mixed and mastered and ready to go, now we need to pay for manufacturing of the physical copies. If funded, this will be the second release on Rat Family Records. *JSYK Rat Family Records is the group of fans and friends who successfully funded the last Fallstar album in 2015.
What we need & What you get
The amount we need to raise to make this record happen is around $1000. The album was way more expensive than that, but since this is a new band we wanted to only ask for a modest amount. The $1000 will go towards manufacturing CD and Cassette formats of the album. Anything extra will go towards paying off some debt we have from the recording process and towards future releases.
For any band, whether you’re on a traditional label or DIY, the preorder stage is the most important time in the life of the record. That’s why we’re offering some awesome perks for those who preorder. This time around we’re making the music in cassette format. We’re super excited about this, and we’re only making 100, so when they’re gone they’re gone! Also Bryan is donating 2 hoodies from Sleeplate Clothing and we’re printing some shirts. Like in our last release, this is the place to get your name and picture in the CD artwork and be a part of Rat Family Records history.
The Legacy
To begin with we didn’t know if Rat Family Records would be a one time thing, but now we’ve decided to make it the home for many other projects. With this release we will be making Rat Family Records official with a website, online store, and podcast series to accompany each release. Everything we’ve ever done musically has been about minimizing the amount of work we outsource, and learning to do things ourselves. From learning to print our own merch and learning to shoot our own music videos, to now tracking our own records and making our own podcast, we’re doing everything we can to keep the huge expense of an album release as low as possible, while enriching your overall experience with the music.

I think we exceeded expectations with Future Golden Age and it has been our most bought and streamed record by a long shot! THANK YOU!
