Short Summary
Not A Drop is a
multidisciplinary arts event celebrating water. The show is taking place on
28th-29th September at the stunning 47-49 Tanner Street, a beautiful Victorian
warehouse in London, SE1. Over the weekend more than 50 artists will be
exhibiting work including photography, print, sculpture, performance and sound
installation. Creative workshops for children, expert talks and film screenings
will also be taking place.
The event aims to
spread understanding of the social, political and ecological threats to water
and introduces visitors to the campaigns of a network of expert groups and
charities including Global Ocean, BLUE Marine Foundation, Waterwise and Pump
Aid. Not A Drop takes a creative approach to get people thinking about something
we all take for granted far too often.
Not A Drop has
been set up by a team of passionate volunteers whose backgrounds include
campaigning, ecology, arts and events management. We wanted to set up this
project in order to get artists and our audience engaged in water issues, and
actively participating in finding solutions and spreading information, as a
lack of clean water is set to become one of humanity’s greatest challenges in
the 21st century.
What We Need & What You Get
Not A Drop has been set up, run and curated by a
team of 10 independent volunteers and so far has been done for absolutely no
budget. Now all we need is some funding to cover the logistics of putting on
the show. Our minimum expenditure
will be around £1000 and we are hoping to raise at least £500 of this on
Indiegogo.
The funding will cover the following: contribution
to the use of 47/49 Tanner Street, our fabulous venue (£500, this is already an
incredibly generous discount rate); event insurance (£150); events licence
(£20); security staff (£70); materials for hanging the exhibition (£100);
printed publicity (£80); printing information about our charity partners (£40);
materials for kids workshops (£40).
If we do not reach our funding goal the funds will
go as far as possible to covering the above costs. If we raise more than the
above we will be able to make small contributions to the many people who are
doing us huge favours by lending us professional lights and sound equipment and
designing our website so far all out of the kindness of their hearts. We will
also be able to put money towards our next project.
If you can contribute £5 then we will credit you on a plaque at
the event; for £15 you will receive a personal thank you message, sent to you
in a bottle, as well as being credited; for £20 a beautiful handmade
water-themed lino print, and your name will feature on our thank you plaque at the show; £50 a set of 3 lino
prints, and your name will feature on our thank you plaque at the show; £75 a set of 5 lino prints, and your name will feature on our thank you plaque at the show.
The Impact
Not A Drop is
about much more than art. Born out of a desire to produce projects and events
that will enable artists and campaigners to collaborate in innovative ways, the
aim is to stimulate and inspire new audiences to engage with the issues raised,
and to encourage them to act. We hope to forge lasting relationships between
activists, artists and audiences. After this initial event we plan to continue
to work with artists and experts to develop creative ways of communicating
ideas and solutions.
Without a doubt,
huge international projects are needed to impact on environmental issues as
complex as those discussed by Not A Drop. However, we believe that this project
will have a lasting impact as it will inspire people to become more actively
engaged in seeking solutions to water mismanagement, connect people to projects
taking place in their local area, prompt people to donate to relevant charities
or initiatives, and help campaigners and artists to network and build
partnerships.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can’t
contribute there are plenty of ways to help out. Mainly, please come to the
event and tell all your friends. You can help us get the word out via Twitter
(@NotADrop) or Facebook. Or please use the
Indiegogo share tools to help us with the fundraising! We’re also looking for
volunteers to help steward the event, so get in touch with notadroplondon@gmail.com if you’re
available for a couple of hours over the weekend. We plan to run more events
similar to this in the future, using art to raise awareness about social,
political and environmental issues, so please sign up on our website to receive
more information in the future www.notadrop.org.uk.
