Why us?

• Pledra's association with OCA (Odoo Community Association) brings together a series of powerful contributors for this project.
• Our experience with Odoo spans over 4 years, out of which 3 were focused specifically on this set of feature. The modules developed are in production for our customer for over a year successfully. And we continue to improve and upgrade them constantly.
• Over 540 contributors, 32.000 commits and 140 repositories OCA is by far the largest organisation in the Odoo ecosystem. With a solid reputation and a massive streak of contributions, it holds 1st place for the most apps deployed on the appstore. A whopping count of over 900 as of this writing. It is essentially a hub for all the top professional Odoo companies and developers around the world working together under the open source spirit.
• The project shall be hosted and maintained by the OCA upon campaign finalization and will benefit from all the contributors of the community including ourselves. The OdooMRP team consisting of contributors specialized in the manufacturing sector will oversee the project's development and merger of functionalities.
• For the reason stated above overfunding shall be redirect towards the OdooMRP team in order to cover the related costs. Depending on the sum it can fund additional features and modules as well.
•  We are happy to be backed by such experienced professionals with reputation in the community such as Pedro Manuel Baeza Romero and Ana Juaristi leading the OdooMRP project. As well as all the board members of the OCA involved in this entire process of making this possible such as: Joël Grand-Guillaume, Alexandre Fayolle and many others.

  • Odoo will be one of the few platforms that fully integrates the user in the production process bringing a new level of automation completely out of the box with no costly customization required.
  • The flexibility offered by the product configurator for both Odoo users and customers will offer a major competitive advantage over other ERP systems by opening up a unexploited segment of users .
  • The Product Configurator reduces Odoo's dependency on other more mature front-end platforms like Magento and Prestashop.
  • The visibility impact this can have on the Odoo platform can be tremendous. Drawing in more users and developers into the Odoo ecosystem.

Why fixed funding?

• The original form of the product configurator has over 2 years of development on board.A complete solution requested by our customer in the manufacturing sector.
• After completion we explored the possibility of converting the heavily customized module to a generic form that works with all businesses.
• This came with a significant cost of time, over 1000 hours invested just for the conversion from our customer specific version to the generic form.
• As such the initial development time funded by our customer (Aluart A.G) would be shared with the community but the work invested into transforming the module and offering it to the community has 0 funding.
• Flexible funding allows a campaign to end before the funds are reached regardless of the amount.We cannot justify our costs or guarantee the delivery of perks below the allocated budget.
• It also offers transparency and assures that we can deliver our promise or you get a complete refund otherwise. This also prevents unfortunate cases where donations are made by certain users in good faith but the target is not reached and there are insufficient funds to fulfill perks. This requires the campaign manager to either deliver the project and perks under the set budget or refund users manually while covering all the platform fees.

What License will the modules have?

• Our belief is that the Product Configurator can only reach its true potential by joining the ecosystem that made Odoo great in the first place, and that is  Open Source software.
• Thus the desired license for the release is AGPL V3, free for anyone to install, contribute and distribute.
• The modules will be hosted by OCA in their repositories
• However this can only be achieved if the campaign reaches its goal.

 

What versions does it support?

• Product Configurator was designed and tested in V8. However migration for all upper versions will soon follow and we already have begun to do it for version 9

When will it be released?

• If the campaign succeeds release is planned in 2-3 months in order to add remaining features and squash any lurking bugs.
