We are HPA Films, part of a Summer Mentorship Program that helps students go from the script to screen process that they write, direct and edit themselves.
Over the course of six weeks, the students came up with an original film titled Off Sides, the story of a high school football player who is forced to confront his personal prejudices when he discovers that the captain of his new team is gay. More than just your typical "sports movie," Off-Sides is about overcoming stereotypes and encouraging tolerance.
What We Need
Our goal of $600 is mostly for the purpose of submitting our film to student and professional film festivals across the country, as film festivals generally require a fee with submission. Past HPA Films productions have been critically acclaimed at various festivals, and even won awards through the NAACP and the Emmy's! What's left over will be saved for next season's budget, and will be used to pay for props, costumes, and on-set lunches for the cast and crew during shoot days,
The Impact
Your donations are what get us into film festivals, it's true, but they do so much more! They help keep the HPA Films program itself alive, and the program's survival means a lot!
- It means the students involved will continue to have a safe and fun summer program in the community.
- It means they will be able to have their voices heard in a creative and positive way at festivals across the country.
- It means we can continue to educate, encourage, and inspire the filmmakers of tomorrow
