Overview
A broken man haunted by the tragic loss of his wife. A young girl trapped beneath her destructive addiction. Before the night is over, these two lives will intersect and change forever.

(The Silence of the Lambs, dir. Jonathan Demme)

ONE LAST THING is the story of two struggling individuals meeting at a crossroads. Jerry is a middle-aged widower set on bringing justice to the drunk driving accident that stole his wife from this world. Molly, the driver during said accident, is a recovering alcoholic desperate to escape her debilitating lifestyle. For these two people, running is the only way out. But only one of them can make it out alive when Jerry decides to take vengeance into his own hands.

(Dial M for Murder, dir. Alfred Hitchcock)

This is a story about the trauma we encounter in our lives and how it manifests within the mind. These characters represent two of the paths one might take when faced with such pain. Some can let it consume their lives entirely; others might take a look in the mirror and reflect about how they can move past, or through, their trauma and get their life back on track.

Parsing the script down to minimal dialogue, this project will place an emphasis on the tools of direction, cinematography, editing, music/sound, and performance to enhance the power of the cinematic storytelling. It’s certainly a big risk to restrict oneself to such rules, but it’s a challenge we look forward to tackling.

(Mystic River, dir. Clint Eastwood)

Taking inspiration and cues from a range of films such as PSYCHOMEMENTO, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, and SHUTTER ISLANDONE LAST THING will be an intense character-driven thriller. One that will surely leave a lasting impact on audiences.

Below you’ll find a scene from our previous film, YOUNG BLOOD, as an example of the kind of atmosphere and tone we’re planning to build within ONE LAST THING.

Filmmaking is expensive. It takes talented crew members, powerful equipment, and lots of time to make everything add up to a well-made, cohesive vision. We’ve sadly reached the limit on what we could raise on our own. Added expenses and challenges such as VFX and using professionally trained animals on set have increased our budget further than anticipated. So now we’re turning to you - our friends, family, and colleagues - to help us get to the finish line.

While these are ballpark estimates, they reflect reality based on our productions in the past and research in the present. The current remaining budget stands at $17,300:

Cast and Crew - $7,500 - A four day shoot needs consistent, passionate crew, especially when we are trying to pay respectable, indie rates. To ensure the best product possible, we are filling our team with individuals who have been on myriad productions and are generously working at discounted fees.

Equipment and Rentals - $4,000 – From the transportation rentals to the camera and lighting houses, we’ve tried to trim these numbers to bare necessities. That being said, we still need that dark thriller vibe and mood which can only be set with quality camera gear and lighting equipment.

Insurance - $1,800 – If Spielberg hadn’t had insurance on JAWS, that shark would have sank the film. We always need backups in case of issues that pop up on set. It’s the magic of the moment fortunately and unfortunately. Having insurance relaxes and allows us to shoot without too much fear.

Food and Miscellaneous Runs - $1,500 – It’s our belief that food nurtures and fuels the brilliant energy on set. Without nutritious lunch for the entire cast and crew as well as fresh, healthy craft services, we would be slugs, blinking to stay awake. We’ll have constant coffee needs as well as petty cash in case any issues arise such as art or expendable runs.

The Dog - $1,300 – Yes, we are training a dog to perform actions that supplement crucial plot and emotional beats. In the story, Jerry’s dog is a blessing and a curse. He's the one living reminder of how Jerry’s life was once happy with his wife.  For pet transportation, real dog trainers, and a professional dog, this is actually an insanely low cost.

Post-Production and VFX  - $1,200 – Our AMAZING post-production team is either working pro bono or for minimal costs. There is also some VFX near the end. No spoilers.
