Short Summary

We were all disgusted by the racist comments made by L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling. We agree with LeBron James and Magic Johnson that there is no place in the NBA or in society for that kind of behavior.

The game of basketball models fundamentally American values of dedication, teamwork, and loyalty and the honorable shared commitment of contributing to something larger than one’s self. When something ugly like racism threatens one of our cherished institutions, we all must respond. Protests and boycotts may be fair, but not fulfilling.

The idea is simple - imagine a sports team that truly represents the values and ideals of Americans everywhere. Let's take over this team with love, raise the first $1 million, and work together to make the Clippers the first NBA team of the fans, by the fans, and for the fans.

What We Need

Our vision is an ownership structure similar to that of the Green Bay Packers - an innovative Clippers organization with public ownership and responsibility.

We have three immediate goals:

1. Raise the first $1 million we need to buy the team. If we all chipped in what we could--$5, $50, or $500, we can't be ignored. If we can crowdfund the first million throughout the playoffs, we could attract enough investors, celebrities, and philanthropists to kick in the rest.*

2. Mobilize a digital fan base of 5 million people on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/OurClippers

3. Start a national conversation on Twitter about what the fans’ team would be like. Maybe #OurClippers would reserve front row tickets at weekend games for fans in elementary school. Or #OurClippers would vote on the charities to donate 20% of team profits to. What if #OurClippers had a bobblehead hall of fame in the stadium with a custom bobblehead of each of our fans? We know you have ideas, so let’s start the conversation and make #OurClippers a trending topic across the country.
