About PaperFlops

PaperFlops is a creative workshop that employs underprivileged people including disabled people throughout Yogyakarta, Indonesia. 

The workshop creates various unique handmade products made from recycled and up-cycled newspapers and other natural materials. All of the materials used in our workshop are environmentally friendly and sustainable. The products produced in our workshop include flip flops, sandals, bags, pencil boxes, and more.

Our best selling product are the flip flops and sandals made from recycled and upcycled newspapers. These Flip Flops are made of recycled and up-cycled newspapers. It takes approximately 1kg of old newspapers to produce a pair of PaperFlops Flip Flops. Other materials for the PaperFlop Flip Flops include root from old palm trees, coconut shells, and 100% natural rubber. The PaperFlop Flip Flops are quite durable and water proof since they are protected with a natural rubber sealant. Also, since each and every PaperFlop is individually handmade, we can create a pair for any shoe size. 

What We Need 

Currently, we are working out of a small garage with the size of 2.4 × 4.9 m and some of the weaving done outdoors. This situation has limited our production capacity and our ability to recruit more underprivileged people to work at our workshop. We plan to lease a small warehouse (8.2 x 12.3 m) for 3 years so  we can help more people and increase our production. For this, we need your help.

The Impact

We choose to employ many who would otherwise be unable to find work: men and women with severe health issues, women who have been domestically abused, and youth who are breaking family cycles and choosing employment over begging. This workshop trains and educates these people in arts and crafts to creating amazing products so they can be entirely self-sufficient.

• an additional $6 for European countries
• an additional $7 for North and South American countries

Shipping will be done with Standard Air Mail so please allow 2 - 4 weeks for delivery.
