Our Story
There has been much speculation regarding the 37 year life of painter Vincent Van Gogh and just as much controversy and discussion surrounding the circumstances and illness that lead to his demise. For the first time, over 120 years after his first admission to a hospital, Dr. Adrienne Sprouse, a 21st century physician takes on this 19th century patient. As a medical student, she realized that the popular theories about the aberrations of Van Gogh's life could not be true. Her travels have taken her to France, Belgium, England and The Netherlands dozens of times, carefully combing through hundreds of various documents and medical records. She has gained unprecedented access to the asylum where Vincent stayed. Dr. Sprouse has thousands of photographs, interviewed countless people, including leading experts, meticulously read all of Vincent's letters to his brother Theo and others, searched through ancient texts in French (she is fluent) and even followed the trail to a 19th century physician's belongings stored in a warehouse in a secluded area of southern France. Now, after years of exhaustive research and as one of the leading Environmental Medicine physicians in the world, Dr. Sprouse is able to make the provocative statement "I know why Vincent Van Gogh died. He wasn't crazy." And she can prove it.
The Impact
The impact of this 90 minute documentary film will be nothing short of revolutionary. What "An Inconvenient Truth" did for global warming, "Passion and Poison" will outdo for raising global awareness about toxic chemical exposures and their effect on the human body. In addition, the misinformation about what disease(s) Van Gogh suffered from will be exposed. As was previously stated, we are confident that our campaign will be very successful and we expect to raise all of our funds. In the unlikely event that we don't raise our stated financial goal, the film will still be made and all funds that have been raised will go towards the completion of the film.
