PAYNE & REDEMPTION - THE INDEPENDENT FILM
Written, Directed and Produced by
FERGLE GIBSON
Payne & Redemption is a highly-anticipated British-made short film that I wrote, directed and produced. It is supported by Sam Lake, writer of the popular Max Payne videogames, and has attracted over eighty-four-million fans worldwide.
“Payne & Redemption seems very ambitious and impressive.
Good luck with your project! Looking forward to seeing it.”
– Sam Lake
The story surrounds the psychological trauma endured by the film’s main character, a weathered New York Detective, and his journey to seek redemption, after having to deal with a long line of traumatic incidents that have occurred in his recent life.
The project
I begun writing the script in 2004, then over the next one and a half years, managed to amass a crew of over 20 industry professionals (including John Attwood, who had recently completed work on Casino Royale). I shot most of the film in October of 2006 with Director of Photography Piers Leigh, using the then revolutionary Arriflex D-20 digital motion picture camera. It wasn't until we got into post production, that we discovered that the film would require a lot of "patching up" before it could be released.
Picking up the pieces
Shortly after production wrapped, I ran out of money, and wasn’t able to afford the immense amount of additional work that needed to be done to complete the film as was originally intended. Because of this, I have decided to turn my film into a NARRATIVE music video by utilizing the footage I DO have and intercutting it with band footage shot either by myself, or another Director of Photography. This decision was based upon the fact that it will be the most inexpensive, easiest, and quickest way to release the project in a completed state, as it will bypass the need for most of the expenses required to finish the production as a narrative movie.
What your contributions will be used for
This particular pitch is to raise the funds for professionally transferring the HDCAM SR master tapes that we shot on, to hard-drives, so that I, for the first time, can gain access to the original, RAW, high-definition footage, and edit together a concept music video (without band footage) for pitching to various record companies whose artists I’d like to work with to bring this project to light.
