PEATER
PEATER centres around a teenage boy who is struggling with Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. This film intends to reflect the struggles men, with eating disorders, face in today’s society. This film will show Anorexia Nervosa’s effects on a person’s mental and physical health and how many of them deal with their issues by isolating themselves, especially from society and as a result worsens their situation.
The film PEATER is about the life of a young man named Peter in his early 20s . Peter has been isolating himself from friends and family for a while. His friends think that the reason for Peter's behavior was the recent death of his mother, but the real problem something else and Sarah who is Peter's close friend, is the only person to understand it. Will Sarah be able to help Peter before it gets out of hand?
RAISING AWARENESS
What is the first gender that comes to mind when talking about anorexia? İsn't it a woman? Yes it's true, the first gender that comes to mind when anorexia is mentioned is female, which is why this disorder is known as a female disorder in society. Therefore, men avoid calling for help. Until recently, men did not receive the necessary help for eating disorders for a number of reasons.
The reasons for this are:
The individual does not notice his own symptoms
Professionals' bias against male eating disorders
Considering eating disorders as women's disorders
Designing eating disorder clinics in hospitals for women
Eating disorders have different symptoms in men than in women
For these reasons we can say that today’s society gives more importance to women with eating disorders. The best example for this could be the movies that are made focusing on this topic. Until today many movies have been made related to eating disorders, but most, if not all, of these movies were about women rather than men.
This is what we aim to change. We are doing a fundraiser not only to raise money for our film, but to try and change the perception that we, as a society, have around eating disorders. We want to show that it is not only a woman’s disorder but that many people struggle from this and that this disorder does not conform to a gender as it affects people of all ages, genders, backgrounds etc. We are trying to raise awareness not only for the eating disorder itself but primarily eating disorders in men.

The Impact
By helping us you will also help to raise awareness to the society of men who are struggling with eating disorders. Between 1.25 and 3.4 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder, around 25% of those affected by an eating disorder are male. By reaching out to this target audience we are helping them on their road to recovery. You might think ''How can a movie possibly change the perception we have as a society? ''. Well, through making this movie we are aiming to reach out to not only those who are suffering with eating disorders, but their family and friends too. Additionally, this will help them to recognize any symptoms they might display.
