We filmed in extreme London weather conditions over 7 days. One moment it was full sunshine, the next a downpour like I have never seen before. We were largely filming in and around Ealing, with a visit to central London, the tube and an amazing college in Regents Park.
We went ahead with the filming with a lot of love, a lot of in kind offers, deferred fees and an incredible cast and crew and now we have reached our Waterloo.
Without any more funds we cannot edit the film.
And the costs of post production as we all know mount up. We need to pay for the editor, the sound composer, the colour and grading, screening costs of early cuts to show the crew and cast and finally the submission fees to festivals.
Festivals. Although the film will have a life of it's own, as previously mentioned it's been offered to
Actions35 so they can use it as a tool for change.
Patrice Etienne is the founder of this innovative organisation and will be using our film as a vehicle to spark debate amongst young adults at serious risk of offending. Rather than lecturing, films are being used as a vehicle to create discussion and ultimate harmony. So of course the film will be a film in it's own right but it will also lead a secondary life in sixth form colleges, prisons and community centres. So it certainly won't be just be doing the usual film circuit, which is incredibly important to me.
Of course there are a lot of films in the world and myself and Shekhar are always going to have more passion than anyone else for this project but I truly believe it is a beautiful and important film that needs to be seen by the world.
We live in an age where sadly we are all still witness to a lot of prejudice and racism. People won't Understand is a tale of love set against the backdrop of racial, religious and cultural prejudices in different sections of society in modern day Britain.
And let's be honest, it's still a lot harder for Asian film makers to get ahead in the UK. Anyone that has met Shekhar will know his passion and ambition. I for one am determined to make it happen for him.
So the pledges start at £5.00 and we would be over the moon if you could assist in anyway possible. If you can't donate financially then if you could retweet this or share it on Facebook, we would really appreciate this.
Thank you very much
Gemma Lloyd
