Overview
One Beat Zines is a UK-based comic and zine collective run by Julia Scheele and Sarah Broadhurst. We're very excited to announce plans for our fourth anthology book, "Performance": the book will include a diverse group of talented contributors, ranging from comic artists, photographers, illustrators, fine artists, and academic writers, all making work themed around gender, performance, and performativity. We're fund-raising not only for printing costs, but also for pay for our contributors!

Who We Are & What We Do

One Beat Zines is a feminist zine & comics collective based in London. We produce bi-annual anthologies and also act as a zine distro mainly for female-identifying artists who are relatively new to the scene.

Our previous anthologies have been Double Dare Ya, a celebratory but also critical look back at the Riot Grrrl music movement of the 90s, Not A New Wave, a Sleater-Kinney fanzine, and Identity, which featured over 30 diverse contributors using comics, personal stories, illustration, and photography to talk about what their identity means to them (all profits of Identity went to charity). You can read Double Dare Ya for free here, see a review of it here and here, and a review of Identity here.

What We Need The £2000 For

As we wrote in our end-of-year blog in 2015, we are only planning to take on big anthology book projects if we can raise enough not just for printing, but also to pay our contributors. The £2000 we are asking for will encompass the printing of 200 copies of an A5 (or similarly-sized) book - and a page rate of £50 for artists, as well as a page rate of £30 for writers.

The Book

The book will be themed around gender, performance, and performativity and will be printed similarly to our last anthology, Identity - on nice matte recycled card and paper stock and will run to approximately 80 pages. It will include a mix of comics, illustration, photography and essays, which brings us to the most exciting part...
