Our Story is to Change the Story!
We know how important the
arts in Philadelphia are to you. They're important to us too, but we've
noticed a serious void in opportunities for women in meaningful and powerful
positions both on and off the stage. This is why we created the Philadelphia
Women's Theatre Festival. We are fast approaching our 2015 Festival and we
need your help!
The Time is NOW!
Your support is crucial to our success and
central to our mission. We are working to build a community that honors
the creation of opportunities for women in the arts, and, in doing
so; we need the support of our city. Your donation will help us present
performances and educational opportunities ranging in style and scope during
our Inaugural Summer Festival from July 30 to August 2 2015.
We are dedicated to creating opportunities for women in the arts.
PWTF fosters and encourages women in the
performing arts by offering unique opportunities for exposure, professional and
artistic and personal development and a platform for performance. We will
foster and encourage women in the arts of all disciplines: directors,
playwrights, performers, designers, administrators and more.
Festival events will include:
· A fully mounted original production
· Original Staged readings
· Women’s stand-up and cabaret events
· Solo performances
· Educational Workshops, seminars and panels
· Opportunities to mix, mingle and network
Our Impact
Over the past five years,
only 10% of plays produced by Philadelphia’s largest grossing professional
theatre companies were directed by women and only 20% of these plays were
written by female playwrights. Since women are currently underrepresented
in the arts, we envision a future wherein Philadelphia showcases the new work
of women, exposing our City to the unique and innovative ideas of a diverse
community of women.
The four-day festival of
public performances will include work ranging in style and scope so as to
attract a wide audience, capture the attention of our community and make
Philadelphia a destination for new artistic ideas and a hub for women artists
of all disciplines. Affordability and
accessibility will enable us to attract a multifaceted audience including students, young adults and seasoned
theatre goers. By providing both fiscal and artistic support to all
contributing artists, we will ensure that the Philadelphia community has access
to high quality artistry that may not otherwise be seen.
Your Contribution Will Help Us Create Opportunities for Women in the Arts
We have big dreams to create an engaging
and immersive inaugural Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival that will provide exciting and meaningful opportunities for women in the arts.
THE BASICS:

Your contribution will help us cover the cost of marketing, printing and
postage, travel, events, production costs and venue space. Our INDIEGOGO
campaign is only a portion of our total budget. Ticket prices alone will
not cover all of the necessary expenses to produce a high-quality and all-inclusive festival.
By meeting and exceeding our fundraising goals, you will enable us to fully
realize our mission to create opportunities and give real value to the work of
women artists in Philadelphia.
Each donor level is dedicated to a local Philadelphia artist that inspires us to
create opportunities for women in the arts. As a thank you
for your belief in the work that we do, we have some PWTF promotional stickers
and buttons for you to display, invitations to exclusive Festival VIP
receptions, VIP Festival Passes, signed copies of the original plays that will
be presented at our inaugural festival, signed copies of a Sarah Ruhl play
(ONLY 3 AVAILABLE) and an invitation to join the PWTF co-founders post festival
for an engaging dinner to learn about how the Festival came to be.
Our Challenge
We
have taken tremendous steps towards realizing our festival plans by
developing a mission and program plan, securing fiscal sponsorship,
generating a budget and timeline, forming an advisory council,
developing artists applications and guidelines, securing venues and
planning our official community launch party, among other tasks. We are
committed to a darn good festival, but we can’t do it without YOU!
We are dedicated.
We are passionate. We, the founders of PWTF, are all artists
ourselves. We have promised Philadelphia a festival and we will
deliver. We want to celebrate women's voices!
