About PHP Vegas
![]()
Hello PHP Community! My name is Joshua Copeland, aka @OGProgrammer and I'm the leader of the 800+ member PHP Vegas User Group. PHP Developers love to collect these #ElePHPants and the almost 40 colors available but this one features a special silver iridescent material unlike its other furry counterparts. Here are a couple reasons I'm launching this campaign:
- To create an Official ElePHPant for the PHP Vegas Users' Group and global collectors.
- Making a unique ElePHPant that brings a new color/twist to the herd.
- Creating the "Rare Holographic Pokemon Card" version of an ElePHPant.
The materials have a holographic look and brings back nostalgic memories for me. It's a very custom fabric versus the furry cloth traditionally used on these ElePHPant plushes. What you see in the video/pictures is a prototype that was produced by Open Goodies. It pretty much looks like the final product other than a bit of cleanup on the font for the words "PHP VEGAS" on the right of the ElePHPant. To the ElePHPant's left is the typical PHP logo. The rainbow glistening colors have a great way of completing the "PHP purple" for its toe nails.
The production quote is from the official companies "Custom Plush Toys" and "Open Goodies" that created the original ElePHPants. The original ElePHPant design was created by Vincent Pontier and the plush cutting template was created by Open Goodies. These shiny little plushes will be manufactured by Custom Plush Toys and produced under my corporation "Design Bunnies, Inc."
Production Requirements
The minimum order with Open Goodies is 1,000 small elephpants so I have to at least order that many... The breakdown and quotes from them look like this:
$15.99 COST PER UNIT x 1,000 Small ElePHPants
+ $897 shipping
+ $400 for EU Testing (and other countries if demand is strong)
+ $1,000 ~ Indiegogo fee
+ Storage Costs (?)
+ Fulfilment + Packaging Costs (?)
Total = $21,000~
This doesn't even include my time to produce, pack, and ship these... I was told creating one of these is really hard (I'm putting it more lightly then they stated).
If we barely hit our goal, there will be very little profit (if any ?) as I've priced things as low as I can to make this happen... However, if we get past 1,000 ElePHPants and into the 1.5-2k range; I can get costs down which leaves more profit and supply to go around. This would be AMAZING
Important Notes
- Pledges do not include shipping fees and/or any VAT, Import, or other tax.
- We must raise at least $21,000 to summon these shiny ElePHPants.
- We only have 2 months to raise the capital before the quote expires.
- Once funds are received, it will take 3-4 months to produce the ElePHPants.
- After I've got the ElePHPants, I'll collect shipping information by emailing everyone at their email associated with their Indiegogo account. You'll receive a link to fill out your shipping details for your order.
- You'll receive an invoice for the shipping amount (plus any fees/VAT/Import tax incurred from the shipping itself) and once that is paid your ElePHPant will be on its way!
The Impact
If you love PHP ElePHPants and want to have an extra special one in your collection then purchase one of our perks now. Take advantage of this limit opportunity to own one of the hottest ElePHPants of 2018. These fuzzy wizards of binary power are a must have of any Wordpress, Laravel, Drupal, Symfony, Zend, or PHP Developer.
Risks & Challenges
- Pledges do not include shipping so please don't freak out if it is like $70 to ship it to you cause you live in a country with high import taxes and what not. I estimate most people in the US will be paying $10-20 for shipping.
- We are going to have VAT, Customs, Tax(es), and other charges to deal with on the shipping level so I'll just work that out individually with backers as stated. I don't want there to be any misconceptions about the fact that there will be 2 charges. One for this initial Indiegogo Pre-Order and 2nd is the invoice I'll send you for the shipping/tax (if applicable) to you.
- If the goal of $21k isn't hit, I'll have Indiegogo return everyones money.
Final Notes
Just one final thing about this campaign. This is a stuffed toy and yea, this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of the universe and all. However, what I think is a big deal is untreated mental illness. That is why I've partnered up with Open Source Mental Illness (OSMI) to donate 10% of our profits to their organization. Recent events both in Las Vegas and across the country/globe have shown how dangerous depression and mental illness truly are. We ask you to share their website and follow their twitter for more information about how you can further help.

Other Ways You Can Help
So if you can't put money in, just share this campaign on social media and your local user groups. Without your support and spreading the word, we will not hit our target and it will likely be your fault. If you want to help, please do the following:
- Follow me and @PHPVegas on Twitter
- Tell your local PHP users' group or any other ElePHPant herders
I hope to gain enough traction with this campaign to get these produced. Let me know of better ways to market this or any other pitfalls I'm not considering.
With your help, we can get one of these in your office to watch over the PHP code you write until the end of unixtime!
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
-Josh
