The Trailer

If you were the star of your own film, with history as your script, who would you play? What character would you be? PLAYING SOLDIER follows the intersecting lives of six World War II reenactors – men and women, black and white, American and European – for whom “history is a personal thing”. PLAYING SOLDIER shows how, through reenacting, the stories that people tell are as much or more about themselves as they are about history.

I'm Ed Gendron. I'm an artist and a filmmaker. Some of you may know me already. For those who don't, I've been working on a documentary called Playing Soldier for about six years. It’s about six different reenactors from very different backgrounds and what passions they bring to the hobby. I'm very close to finishing the film and and I want very badly to share this story with the world.

Why is a fundraiser necessary?

The film has been shot and edited, but there are some post-production tasks and related costs that I have to take care of before I can premiere the film anywhere. To do this, we will need $8,000. I'll break down what that will cover:
• 5K is for the Professional HD blowup (and color balance)
• 1K for the Professional sound edit.
• 1K is for DVD production
• 1K is for the final Composer/Musician payment

Plus you get something in return for donating:

• Every donation is tax-deductable.
• Our"perks" range from getting your name "in lights" as a contributor, to original signed photos, to a signed photo book, to an original limited-edition movie poster that was printed and signed by me. I’ve even included an original one-of-a-kind painting. Check out the Gallery for pictures of these perks (see page top) . Check out the Perks section to see what you can get. (see page right)

If you choose to support this film, it will reach a wider audience. Your help will make the difference between whether or not people get to see this film at all. Your donation will help bring a good story to life.

Even if you are flat broke you can still help. If you are reading this now, then please help spread the word by using one (or more) of the share buttons so that others can find out about this film and the fundraiser too. The buttons are located right below the main video. With just a few clicks you can help spread the word and help bring this film to life. Thank you!
