My sisters keeper:
Hi, my name is Lina. I'm the youngest of 6 children; all born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I'm reaching out on behalf of my sister, Adriana. She's a single mother of 2 and grandmother of 2. Just 10 weeks after celebrating Mother's Day this year, my sister was diagnosed with Stage III C Ovarian Cancer. I learned of this 2 days after she underwent an extremeley invasive hysterectomy. Unfortunately, her ability to heal from surgery is very slow due to her diabetes. On top of that, she painfully completed her 1st round of Chemotherapy on 8/31/2012. She has 5 more rounds to go. She is unable to work, drive, or properly care for herself. There is a team of about 10 loved ones, including myself, who have rearranged our lives in order to care for her, day in and day out. Although, she has her loving family beside her, she spends hours crying. Crying, not only from the physical pain, but also from the mental anguish of worrying about her financial situation. Sadly, although she has a great amount of love and support, that amount, unfortunately will not pay the bills.
What We Need:
I beg for your help. I hope that you will find it in your hearts & wallets to donate to my sister. The donations will go towards her rent, utility bills, food, prescription medications, supplies during chemo, and the needs of her 14 year old daughter, Natalie, who just started her 1st year of high school. Your donations will even help with Natalies school supplies, PE clothes, and public transportation to get to and from school. I am striving for the above requested amount based on the duration of her undergoing her chemo treatments over the next several months.
The Impact:
Your contributions will not only help with my sister's financial strife but it will help her focus less on bills and focus more on healing and moving past this difficult time in her life. Ultimately we need bare necessities, kind words, love and support whether it be financially or just emotionally. If you have ever had a loved one with Cancer you know just how difficult this truly is and know that even one dollar makes a difference because that is still one dollar she didn't have before.
Also, we hope to spread awareness on Ovarian cancer because unfortunately there is not a test or screening designated specifically to diagnosing Ovarian cancer. Majority of women who are are diagnosed are found to have the late stages as opposed to early stages, that would have been found, had there been a way to properly screen for Ovarian cancer. I hope in reading this you will spread the word, love, support, money or anything to help my sister and women just like my sister who are struggling with Ovarian cancer.
