Overview
In an alternate reality, Pokemon battling has been banned due to animal cruelty. But Pokemon trainers still exist. Like Shaolin monks who observe tigers, cranes and snakes to create animal style kung fu... Pokemon trainers learn from their Pokemon and battle each other with Pokemon style kung fu. In this 2-part short film, Ash, traveling with his friends Misty and Brock, challenges a mysterious foe to a Pokemon kung fu battle at the Team Rocket Hideout.

Who We Are

Turtle Wave was founded by four guys in the DMV area who love Jackie Chan movies, DBZ, video games, and Pokemon. We are most known for our Live Action Super Smash Bros Little Mac vs Dark Ness video and our many, many DBZ parodies. You can check out our YouTube channel here.

What We Need

This project has been the biggest undertaking we've ever attempted.  We've been shooting almost every weekend over the summer and still have quite a bit more to go; The crew list is double what it was for any of our other videos; And the visual effects required to bring this video to life are more complex than all our previous videos combined. What we really need is more time in the day. But since no amount of money can buy that, we would love to have something to pay our crew for their time and effort, as well as get some reimbursement for gas food, and props.

Our Progress

This is a two-part video. We are currently wrapping up shooting for part one, and are about to start shooting for part two in the coming months. This project took months of preparation before production even began.

About a month went into creating the concept. About two to three month went into choreography, and another two months for creating the script and storyboard.

We began production on late May. We found a really nice, seldom used underground parking garage that looked very much like a shady team Rocket hideout. However, what we didn't take into account was the heat and humidity. As well as having to talk to the cops on three separate occasions.

But the hardest part still lies ahead: Post Production. Our last project took about five days to shoot and three weeks for editing and special effects. For this project, we've already shot for ten days, and we have twice as many special effects scenes as last time... yikes. And that's only part ONE...

Visions of the Future

This video is really a pilot of sorts for a much larger series that we want to create.

The Pokemon universe always had rather weak humans. But imagine if they could do kung fu and shoot fire from their hands! Imagine if they could stand toe to toe against Pokemon instead of just ordering them around. It'll be like an Avatar/Pokemon fusion.

We'd love to retell the story of Ash as a martial artist. Starting out of Pallet town with his Pikachu style kung fu, meeting Brock and Misty, each with their own unique style, and battling team rocket. Instead of capturing new Pokemon, he could learn new styles of kung fu.

As martial artists, we know that there are almost as many styles of martial arts as there are Pokemon species. And it would be really fun to come up with cool new ways to match a type of martial arts to a certain Pokemon. A mixture of snake style and jujitsu for Onix; Fanzi Quan (lightning fist) for Pikachu; Taekwondo for Hitmonlee; The possibilities are endless. And now, with the new Mega Evolution concept, Pokemon kung fu masters can technically go "super saiyan"!
