My name is Steve Duddy and when I first married into the Porcaro family in 1980, Toto was already well on their way to great success. What fascinated me the most was not just the sheer number of artists each of my new brothers had worked with, but also how huge those artists were. They'd played with everyone from Cher to Michael Jackson, Steely Dan to Madonna, Paul McCartney to Ray Charles, Miles Davis to The Bee Gees, Barbara Streisand to Dolly Parton and countless more.
It wasn't until after the untimely passing of my brother-in-law Jeff Porcaro, that I was fully able to grasp the incredible contribution he made to the music world. Jeff, Mike and Steve had already accomplished so much by the time I met them. Jeff was 25 and I was a 20 year old college football player, when Joleen and I became engaged, and I didn't know the first thing about music or how it was made. I just knew I loved listening to it. I was immediately made to feel welcome by him and the rest of the family. It has been fascinating and amazing to watch them work and to see how it's all done.
The film pays homage to my amazing in-laws - Joe & Eileen Porcaro, who started it all.. who lovingly supported the careers of not only their children and Toto but so many others that chose an artistic path. It's a nod to all parents who nurture and support their children in the Arts. It's also a tribute to Jeff Porcaro and the immense void he left, not only in our family's hearts but also in the hearts of music fans all around the globe. I've cherished this fly-on-the-wall privilege and I'm now thrilled to share their incredible story with the world. I would love for you to be a part of it too.
I will be working closely with my brother Chris Duddy is a talented director/cinematographer who has been working in film for over 30 years. He is currently finishing a documentary about legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame star Duff McKagan, the bassist from Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver, which will be released worldwide this summer of 2015. As a founding member of the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling rock band Toto, songwriter/keyboardist Steve Porcaro had huge pop hits with “Hold the Line,” “Rosanna,” and “Make Believe.” He also co-wrote “Human Nature” on Michael Jackson’s 30 million-selling Thriller album. With his brothers, drummer Jeff Porcaro and bassist Mike Porcaro, they met David Paich while their fathers, Joe Porcaro and Marty Paich worked together on Glen Campbell’s TV variety show. Steve later toured with Gary Wright and Boz Scaggs, around the time of his “Silk Degrees” album. Members of that touring band would later form Toto. Their million-selling LP “Toto IV” swept the Grammys, winning Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Producer of the Year. After seven albums, Toto disbanded in 1988. Steve then launched a film-scoring career and has scored for many film and television shows, including his current project, composing the music for the FX hit show “Justified”.

Jeff Porcaro, the drummer for the Grammy winning, platinum-selling rock band Toto, is arguably one of the most highly respected drummers in the history of music. Considered by players all around the world as one of their biggest influences, Jeff’s approach to drumming was extremely musical, always centering his focus on the importance of the song. His time-feel was perfect without ever feeling stiff. His contribution to music in a relatively short time, was simply astounding. Even before he finished High School, he landed a job performing on the Sonny & Cher TV series. Shortly thereafter, he was offered the prestigious drum chair playing for Steely Dan – which he ended up touring and playing on many of their mega hit records. From that point, Jeff Porcaro amassed a collection of credits with virtually every major artist spanning the 70s to the 90s. Boz Scaggs to Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson to Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills & Nash to Don Henley – if it was a major artist with a major hit, Jeff was first call. The world tragically lost Jeff at the young age of 38 and to this day, his impact is still lovingly referred to daily.

Mike is best known for his work as the bassist for the Grammy-winning band, Toto. The middle brother of Jeff and Steve Porcaro, Mike’s feel on the bass is very reminiscent of his brother Jeff’s approach on the drums. Extremely solid, highly musical and lyrical. Being a drummer himself, Mike’s ability to play with drummers and craft the perfect rhythm section is well-respected.
Along with his work with Toto, Mike Porcaro has also performed and recorded with Dionne Warwick, Seals and Crofts, Boz Scaggs, David Foster, Steve Perry, America, Joe Walsh, Donna Summer, Christopher Cross, Barbara Streisand, Natalie Cole and many others. Also Mike worked with producer greats Al Schmitt, Elliot Scheiner, Greg Ladanyi, Humberto Gatica, Jay Graydon, David Foster, Tom Knox and countless others.
In 2007, Mike retired from recording and touring after being diagnosed with ALS; in 2015 Mike lost his battle, and the world lost Mike (at the age of 59). You can donate to his charity here - Sweet Relief
