PRETTY F*CKED
There is no denying that the most represented voice in music is that of the cis white male. However, this voice has continued to fail in supporting and speaking up for marginalized voices–a silence that has allowed men in music to benefit directly from the oppression of these voices. Does anyone even notice all of the entirely male lineups? Why do we need thousands of different bands made up entirely of white men? It's not like there aren't any not-dudes out there...

We want to make real, tangible change in terms of representation. That's why we will have strictly 100% non-male releases–the world already has more than enough support and representation for cis male voices in music. A crucial aspect to supporting these voices is providing a means for them to share their music digitally and physically. However, a run of 200 tapes costs around $150 and a run of 100 costs around $100 to order out. That's why, in order to get this project started, we need to have money to use towards the creation of the first few physical releases and initial start up costs. Our hope is that as we grow larger, we will be able to support future releases with tape sales.
YOU'RE JUST GONNA MAKE A BUNCH OF TAPES, SO WHAT?
We will not only be in charge of the curation and promotion of releases, but will also provide recording/mixing/mastering help (depending on what the artist wants). Giving artists the experience of putting out a release is essential, especially since they might not have had the opportunity to do so before. These tapes will also give the artists the opportunity to make some cold hard cash.
WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW?
If you are in a position of privilege, use your privilege to speak up for (not over) marginalized and oppressed voices–especially in spaces where they cannot exist safely. Keep an eye out for all-dude bands or all-dude lineups and speak up against poor representation. Call out your friends when they say messed up things. Be aware of the space privileged people take up. If the excuse for your silence is that it makes you feel uncomfortable to speak up, remember who benefits from and who is harmed by this silence.
