Project Cellule is an art/science fusion piece created by two students in their final year at the University of Westminster.

The piece explores the ways in which humans may be individuals, but work towards, and within, a larger network. In this sense, humans can be seen as individual cells that exist within a unified body - a body that requires each cell to perform a function in order to work. Unlike most installations, the feedback you receive from interacting with our piece will emphasise the network existence, using your presence to manipulate what others experience.

Our work will take form as a large web of woven IV tubes that will sprawl across the floor, walls and ceiling of the gallery - occasionally falling into a cell inspired structure. Through these tubes we intend to pump bioluminescent fluid, reminiscent of single cell ocean organisms. This fluid will be manipulatable through sensory points around the room; heat, movement, pulse and breath monitors will allow the viewer to change the flow and colour of the liquid in part of the piece.

This is a challenging and large project, pushing both our creative and scientific boundaries. We hope that you feel as excited about the prospect of this piece as we do - if you do, please follow our tumblr for updates on our progress and challenges along the way. If you would like to donate to our project, we would be so grateful for even a small donation to help us bring our vision to life. We hope this will be a spectacular but humbling experience, both for the viewer of the final project and for us along the journey.

This is the breakdown of our budget.

What you'll get in return for contributing:

We realise this is all in dollars, but it works out cheaper than using british funding sites due to the amount they take as fees.

Other ways you can help us:

We are students ourselves and understand that money is tight, so, if you cannot afford to give us any dosh - fear not. We will be in desperate need of weavers. You heard correctly, weavers. Our piece involves weaving over 1,000 meters of tubing and if we were to do it alone we are certain we would go insane. If you would like to donate the odd afternoon to us, we would be so grateful and will of course supply tea and biscuits for all involved. If you are close to either of us, please expect to be doing this regardless of if you offer.

Please share this amongst any arty folk, scientists or rich people that you know.

If you would like to contact us about this project, please feel free to do so at projectcellule@gmail.com.
