Short Summary
I am a potter, social activist, spoken word poet, and educator. All of these roles are rooted in my childhood. As a child my first exposure to art was “Graffiti."
Today my graffiti is defacing social inequality. I see my pottery as a process of transforming the ground we walk on into something we eat from; we search all day for the perfect spot to put it on display. In many ways this transformation of tragedy into triumph is a metaphor for my life’s story.
I have developed a studio practice that fluidly communicates with diverse audiences. This is why working in film is incredibly important. I hope to connect with audiences outside of the ceramics cannon in order to illustrate the places where my work relates to others fields. The medium of film is the most accessible medium for many potential viewers.
The hope is not that we will create a influx of new potters but that folks can see the addagge "you can be anything you want" is true. Pottery is not just for a singular race or culture. It is representative of the human story and the contemporary urban experience needs its own voice.
